We're getting closer to finishing our CD. Mixing was completed (hopefully) yesterday.
Here's a solo piano piece Andalucia
that reflects my fondness for flamenco. One of my favorite jazz pianists is Chano Dominguez, who has obvious roots in flamenco. While I can only begin to scratch the surface of the complex harmonic vocabulary he uses in his compositions, I wanted to write a tune that brought me closer to the music and the region where it flourished. I also have a special place in my heart for the music of Albeniz.
So imagine "Andalucia" as a duet between two guitarists. The tune developed in the wee hours of the morning, and as the hours passed the tone became darker until it took the current form.
