Hey, i finally got round to catching up on all the recordings. Wow! That is a such a lovely piece. What type of piano did you record it on - it has a wonderful tone. The only thing with it is the recording quality is a bit iffy. It sounds like there's alot of feedback and fuzz. Apart from that it was beautiful!!!

Hi, thanks for the reply!

It is a Yamaha U1. I do agree that the recording quality is quite bad. \:\)

May I ask why you want to use this out-of-tune piano?

I don't have access to another piano...actually I DO have a digital piano but it's not as good. I'm getting my piano tuned this week, though. \:\)

I've listened to your recording about five times now. I liked it as well as your Chopin piece. Great job! Here are my comments:

It seemed to me that you were a little unsure of yourself at the beginning. However, I think you really started warming up to the piece by the time you got about a quarter of the way through it. At the halfway point it seemed you were at your peak confidence, and it really showed in your playing.

I like your dynamics and the way you shaped the piece. You werenít carried away by emotion early on, and that really added to the experience by keeping it interesting the whole way through as you developed things. Donít be too reserved though, either. Let those ritardandos, crescendos, fortes, and especially pianissimos shine through to give the piece more contrast in dynamic range and tempo.

Overall, I enjoyed it, and at the stage you are at - you said you are still working to get the notes down at some points - you are doing very well, in my opinion. Once you are fully comfortable with playing the notes, you can focus entirely on musicality.

To be honest though, I don't play this piece or much Brahms at all and Iím an amateur at best. So I just may not know what I'm talking about!

Nice work! I just finished learning this piece and I will be performing it along with many others in my Junior recital in December.

The Good: You found the melody and you did a great job showing that you know where the piece is going. A lot of people I hear play this piece, they play all lines with the same dynamic which can get real boring and ugly. You had esp good balance between left and right hand esp in the peak section. Great touch on the keys for this piece. You seemed very secure of the music!

The Bad: It sounds like you're playing with a meteronome too often. That ruins the beautiful color of this piece. It was like you were holding your breathe from beginning to end just to get done. You need to breathe and use retardandos and rubotos. Don't be afraid to slow down even more at the end of a phrase. Emphasize bass notes more in certain sections to better harmonize the tonal progressions. Also, be carefull not to "over-do" the pedal in certain sections.

Overall, very nice work here. Keep working at it to become more sensitive and it will be very effective. Congratulations!

Maybe I should post a recording of me playing this so you can get what I'm talking about with the "meteronome" idea I mentioned.

Because of my mood tonight, I'd have to say you spoke to my soul. But that borderlines on another iffy thread currently receiving a lot of attention, so I'd rather steer clear of it. ;\)

I think, as Major Piano said, you could've used a little more rubato in places, and certainly strung out my heart even more with dynamic certainties. But that would've been as spices to an already excellent entree.

Well done. \:\)

I'm not sure exactly how to record myself and get it on my computer. How did you do this?
