Some 'sad' music for a Happy Thanksgiving! \:D

Prelude, Op.37 No.1 - Mesto (.m4a file)

Prelude, Op.51 No.2 - Lugubre (.m4a file)

I hope everyone can read .m4a files?

Be patient, troglodyte.

I am working on converting the files to something else. It may take another day or two.

I haven't heard much feedback on these recordings so am assuming perhaps that other people are having trouble with the format.

Ok troglodyte, I've converted these to mp3 just for you! I hope you can read them? The quality won't be quite as good as the m4a files, but at least you should be able to hear them:

Scriabin Prelude, Op.37 No.1 - Mesto (mp3 file)

Scriabin Prelude, Op.51 No.2 - Lugubre (mp3 file)

Beautiful performances whippen boy! I listened to the m4a files and the sound was wonderfully full and spacious - and the playing wasn't bad either!

Thanks for posting them.

Gee thanks! \:\)

Feel free to guess the piano if you like... I started a guessing thread over on the Piano Forum.

Where did you get the score for this music and what edition was it? I like Scriabin's music very much and his preludes and a couple of sonatas have been on my "going to learn that soon" list for a while.

The edition I used: Charles Hanson.

Pianopedia only lists Charles Hanson for Op.37, though there must be others?

I see the Charles Hanson company was absorbed by Warner Brothers.

Pianopedia lists Charles Hanson, Dover, and Peters for op.51.

I'm thrilled to know people want to learn these pieces! Many of Scriabin's slower preludes are not difficult, they are short, and each one is a gem.

Thank you whippen boy for the nice recordings. I downloaded the mp3 version. I've been kinda busy these last few days so I haven't poked into the recordings folder.

Indeed whippen, excellent performances! I especially like the way you keep the pace and thus prevent the pieces from becoming too sentimental. And you have an enviable control of dynamics. The pieces are new to me so I cannot really comment much beyond that. For some reason I liked No 1 more than No 2, but that may be because of the pieces rather than your performance.

Very nice performances and recordings. Very reverberant. Been hoping to get a chance to record that model of piano myself one of these days. Sounds like you described hanging omni mics, commonly used in orchestral and choir recordings, which are typically very true to their source. What sort of space were you in?

Thanks Howard. I've been thinking of you, as I recorded a rag on the big Faz. \:D I'd post it, but the recording would need some tweaking...

The room seats 750. The walls are very solid, with stucco; several coats of acoustically reflective paint (!) were recently added. Unfortunately there is a suspended ceiling, but it replaces an even more acoustically troublesome barrel vault. There are still some barrel vaults in the room, over the stage particularly. It was suggested to add coffering, but this was not done.

The room is ideal for concerts - especially choral/vocal works, and favors the treble slightly.
