Euan, and anybody else, I know you played this song in the first recital by ear, but does anybody know where I could get sheet music for it? I really like it. I have looked all over on line with no success.

Hi Laura D,
I think it would take a monumental effort to find it anywhere in sheet music form! So far, after much looking, I have only seen the actual song on 2 seperate cd's (both of which available from Polish websites).
The only thing I can say is watch the movie 'The Pianist' and try to play it from there. I can't even tell you what I played as it's been lost from my memory (learned it 1 day, recorded it the next, and couldn't remember it when I tried last week).
The 'version' I played was a simplified version of what was played in the movie, and that was a waltzy version of the original.
As Monica says, the Pianist songbook isn't very helpful, and I would strongly recommend anyone to NOT BUY IT - the songs are simplified and incomplete. But thats a different story...
Sorry I can't help further, but the song is a very old, pre-war tango song from Poland.
Good luck with the search! Euan.
p.s. Monica - I tried the google thing. Gulp! But kinda cool...

Wow, I come back from a day away, and there it is! Thanks! Still, I can't read Polish, and besides I am very leery of using my debit card out there in the big wide world where who knows who will get hold of the number (not that there's much money to take!). I would spend the $10, but how much is shipping anyway? Hmmm, anybody have any advice? Maybe I can find somebody who reads Polish to tell me if there is a way to order it by mail.

Laura D,
I don't know if you have ever ordered from Hutchins and Rea in Atlanta (www.hutchinsandrea.com). They are a wonderful resource for printed music, including the ability to track down all kinds of obscure stuff.
If you go to their web site, there is a link for "Special Requests". I would copy the URL of the Polish web site into their form and ask them if they can find out who the publisher is and/or whether they could get a copy for you.
I have always found them to be very helpful and personable.

Chrissi, Did you get a chance to ask your teacher about the piece? That is very nice of you to try to find out for me!

Laura, as promised, yesterday during my lesson I showed my teacher the name of the piece. He smiled, sat down at his piano an played it for me . This little tango is very, very famous in Poland and as a young man he had played it very often while making dance music together with friends. The translation of the polish title is: "We will meet at nine o'clock". He promised me to search through his sheet music for the notes. I hope, he can find them! Since he played it for me, the music is in my head and I really would like to be able to play this piece, too. I'll keep you informed.... Chrissi

Thanks, Chrissi. I just heard back from Bill Rea of Hutchins and Rea, saying that they could not get the piece, so it is really good to hear that it exists and is known, and *maybe* somebody can find it!

There are a couple of ways that you could maybe order the music from Poland. If you click on Kontakt, you get their email and phone number. Maybe you could find someone who speaks a language you do.
If you are afraid of using your debit card, check with your bank and see if they offer the service of assigning a special number just for the one use. Many companies do that.

I think I have a way to order the book with this piece with it. A Polish friend is checking on it, and says if they can't deliver to the US that her father-in-law lives in that city and should be able to buy it at the bookstore. Was anybody still interested in getting a copy? I figure I might as well order more than one if I find out how.
