Okay...so I passed my RCM grade 7 piano exam and just had my first lesson after the exam on the weekend.
Well! My teacher chose a J.S.Bach Prelude out of the RCM Gr. 8 Repetoire book and asked my what key it was in.
I look at the key signature...two #'s, hmmm, well it could be in D+ but I look at the beginning note and the final note and OF COURSE I misread them and I said it's probably the minor of D+.
My teacher promptly points to the title of the piece, which is in big letters, as titles should be, and it reads "Prelude in D major".
I groan and try to disappear.
This has happened several times before and I always say to myself "LOOK AT THE TITLE FIRST!!!".
When will I ever learn?
Anyways, besides the Bach I also expressed my desire to learn all of the 11 Bagatelles from Beethoven's Op. 119 and my teacher thought that was a good idea and we proceeded to look at the 2nd bagatelle.
Also, having learned from my recent experience in preparing for the exam I realized how much I can't play scales, chords, arpeggios, etc.
So I've decided to do all the technique stuff for gr. 8 VERY SLOWLY to start with.
And each time I sit down at the piano I also do one (and only one) exercise each from the Czerny, Hanon and Little Pischna book very slowly.
Well that's it for now.
How are you all doing? Anyone else working on the RCM Gr. 8 stuff?
