does anyone use 'you tube' to post videos of their playing or to help them with their study, or just to enjoy watching their favourite pianist? I think it's great and hopefully, when I've mastered something, I'll put it up there. I know you get a lot of idiots on there but quite a lot of people post enouraging comments too. This is my link, which doesn't actually have any videos of me as yet, just a load of my favourite videos. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=LiverpoolPoet I'm currently trying to master 'Piano Man' but wonder if one day I'll be able to play 'Root Beer Rag'! I have actually seen a few useful tutorials on there too... Does anyone else care to share any links they might think are useful/interesting/entertaining?

My son posts his work and has gotten some very valuable commentary from many pianists and teachers here at PW. Since some of these are pieces he will be using in upcoming competitions their help has been much appreciated. The act of recording them is itself good practice for dealing with pressure. The link is: Our YouTube Account Cheers, David P.S. Anthony is in the process of recording the Brahms Rhapsody in G minor (we've completed one take). He'll be posting that one for commentary soon. And he'll be posting it under his own name. At age 13, I've relented and let him use the forums.

hi David, yes I can understand that if you just want feedback on how something sounds then recordings are great, especially if you're playing for a competition. Because I'm playing for enjoyment, I like to see people playing as well as hearing them, which is why I enjoy you tube so much. Mike, thanks for that link- seems a bit advanced for me at the moment but I'll bookmark it for future ref

Hi! Sorry for offtopic, but can I ask how long do you play? I like Piano man very much and will learn it one day, but now I have only 6 months experience. So, how much do I have to wait'.D

That's hard to answer because everyone learns at different speeds and practicses for different amounts of time and not everyone has the same amount of ability, but... I haven't been playing for very long at all, I started in 2005 (from scratch, never played before and couldn't read music) but I broke my arm which put me out of action for around 3 months- when I mended I kind of lost interest for quite a while and tinkered off and on, now and again, but about a month or so ago, I saw BJ on a clip of The Old Grey Whistle Test, playing PM and I was blown away! Since then, I've begun my lessons again and am working on an easy to play arrangement from this book http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/0160035/details.html It's not that difficult to play but I can't 'sight read' so I'm taking it in chunks and really enjoying it, it sounds great- well I think so!

Thanks, Frank. ful. Actually, in the past few months, I've been posting youtube links to my students' assignment sheets. It is very helpful.

Here's my videos on Youtube, I think it's a great way to overcome the shyness of playing in front of people. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=SergeVideo Serge
