This was posted on the official Einaudi forum, but I thought I would share it here. A 35 minute video of him playing pieces from the Una Mattina album. It will appeal to fans of his, but it is also a good chance for anybody who hasn't heard his music to get a sample of what he is like. His name gets mentioned quite a lot here, but I don't think he is very well-known outside Italy / UK. Hope you enjoy! http://www.kwmusica.kataweb.it/kwmusica/pp_scheda.jsp?idContent=121850&idCategory=2028 (And they got the names of the songs wrong on the screen )

I'm listening now, thanks for posting this link! I'm finding the music to be too low key for me. (which is kind of odd considering the music I often play.) Maybe it's because it's 8 in the morning and I just had a big cup of coffee! :p
I'm looking for the "hook," the part that makes one piece stand out from another, and I'm not finding it as often as I'd like. Although, the piece that's playing now is quite nice. Hmm, need titles! I'm only about 10 minutes into the first video though, so I should reserve judgement. Euan, if I tell you the "minutes" for a piece, could you tell me the title? I really like the one that's playing at 10-11 minutes.
You know, this kind of reminds me of Takeshi Kako, a Japanese pianist. I bet Euan and Monica and some others here would really like his music. Let me see if I can find any links.

Shiro - just to tell you that the song names are mixed up in the video. For example, the first piece is not called 'Leo', it is 'Una Mattina'. So lets see... 1o minutes 30 and called 'Come un Fiore' on the video... That piece is actually called 'A Fuoco'[/b], and has a beautiful cello on the recording as well!

I watched for a few minutes and only saw the guy speaking in a foreign language....is that the one where he plays the piano? If not, which link is it? Thanks

The piece was not one of my favourites (although i'm liking it more and more now), so I didn't follow it with the sheet music. Will have a look this afternoon. When he plays the reprise of it, I wonder if he skips it again. I noticed that he cut Bianche Nuvole short (being as it is my favourite, I was not pleased ). Maybe it was just to squeeze everything into the 35minute time frame (it was maybe a tv-special gig)

My guess is that I could learn about half of the pieces in the Greatest Hits book with little or moderate difficulty; the other half are probably beyond my comfort zone at this time. ...but I also think that ultimately I will learn them all. I love his stuff.

So far, I have attempted to play about maybe 1/2 of his studio work (the main albums). I think Monica is right - the notes themselves are fairly straightforward - but getting the expression and dynamics are alot more tricky. I think it's because the notes are straightforward, there requires much more dynamics to bring the pieces to life. However, unlike Monica, I know I don't give enough time to the dynamics. I think its a level of maturity with the piano I am learning about but still have not achieved. The reason I have got through quite alot of the music is because I learn the notes, try and put a little expression in to it, then move onto the next piece. I need to really study the dynamics written, and apply them to my practice. One thing which makes certain Einaudi pieces difficult for me is the left hand notes. Sometimes he plays C,G,C (higher) which I can do fine. But when it is C,G,E (higher), I find it a bit of a stretch. And if I try and move my wrist to the side, I lose co-ordination. So I sometimes cheat and play the octave note instead. Kawaigirl- I can't comment on The Vigil, as I haven't seen the music, but certainly I was impressed with the expression you put into it - maybe you should check out Eianudi again - once you get the notes down, you will have some fantastic new recordings to share with us

Like you said learning the notes is not difficult but learning the piece with the dynamics is the toughest challenge especially when it comes to playing Einaudi's pieces.

Psychopianoman, Einaudi has a sheet music book for the complete "Una Mattina" cd. Take a look here : http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/067827/details.html Enjoy
