This was posted on the official Einaudi forum, but I thought I would share it here. A 35 minute video of him playing pieces from the Una Mattina album.

It will appeal to fans of his, but it is also a good chance for anybody who hasn't heard his music to get a sample of what he is like. His name gets mentioned quite a lot here, but I don't think he is very well-known outside Italy / UK.

Hope you enjoy!

(And they got the names of the songs wrong on the screen frown )

I clicked on the link and got a web page in a different language. I saw two links with a 56k by them and they would not play. What am I supposed to be clicking on.

[EDIT] I got it to work. This is the kind of music I want to make right here. That was just amazing. Fantastic.

I'm listening now, thanks for posting this link! I'm finding the music to be too low key for me. (which is kind of odd considering the music I often play.) Maybe it's because it's 8 in the morning and I just had a big cup of coffee! :p

I'm looking for the "hook," the part that makes one piece stand out from another, and I'm not finding it as often as I'd like. Although, the piece that's playing now is quite nice. Hmm, need titles! I'm only about 10 minutes into the first video though, so I should reserve judgement. Euan, if I tell you the "minutes" for a piece, could you tell me the title? I really like the one that's playing at 10-11 minutes.

You know, this kind of reminds me of Takeshi Kako, a Japanese pianist. I bet Euan and Monica and some others here would really like his music. Let me see if I can find any links.

Oh, I figured it out. It's "Come un fiore" and starts at about 10min 30 seconds. I'd like to play that!

BTW is it just me, or all some of the pieces not titled on the video? Just my eyesight?

What I like is how he captures an emotion in each piece and proceeds to uncover it. I gues it is just my style so I love it. I think it is perfect.

I will post some improv. pieces in the August recital that were influenced by his music. I have been messing around with some stuff since I watched the video and have some nice sounding pieces coming along.

I will now for sure have to buy one of his CD's and some of his sheet music.

Shiro - just to tell you that the song names are mixed up in the video. For example, the first piece is not called 'Leo', it is 'Una Mattina'. So lets see...

1o minutes 30 and called 'Come un Fiore' on the video...

That piece is actually called 'A Fuoco', and has a beautiful cello on the recording as well!

After repeated attempts, I finally got the video to play! What a treat!

Euan, did you notice that he cut "Una Mattina" off? (the first piece he played). That's one of the few I've learned, so I was looking forward to seeing how he played the fairly tricky part toward the end (with all the low bass notes), but he just cut the song off... I wonder why? Maybe he had a memory lapse? laugh

The thing that struck me the most about this video is looking at Einaudi's face and seeing how he was pure and simply 100% into the music. You could tell it was just him, the piano, and the music. I would give anything to have that kind of detachment from my surroundings.

I agree with you monica. I am going to order that greatist hits book or whatever it is called by him.

Are any of his pieces easy to play?

21 minutes = Nuvole Bianche, which is my favourite!

24 minutes = Una Mattina, a reprise from the first track.

You know, I didn't actually notice that! The piece was not one of my favourites (although i'm liking it more and more now), so I didn't follow it with the sheet music. Will have a look this afternoon.

When he plays the reprise of it, I wonder if he skips it again. I noticed that he cut Bianche Nuvole short (being as it is my favourite, I was not pleased frown ). Maybe it was just to squeeze everything into the 35minute time frame (it was maybe a tv-special gig)

I have tried to learn 4 pieces by Einaudi so far. One (Le Onde) is so hard to play well I fear I never will get it down. The other 3 (Nefeli, Una Mattina, Dietro Casa) are easy to get the right notes down; accomplishing the right expression and dynamics is somewhat harder. My guess is that I could learn about half of the pieces in the Greatest Hits book with little or moderate difficulty; the other half are probably beyond my comfort zone at this time.

...but I also think that ultimately I will learn them all. I love his stuff. heart

I have a few of his books and some of the pieces "look" easy but once you start to play it, for me it was... eek help

Perhaps Euan & Monica views this differently?
