hi everybody,

Happy New year!!!

I watched a show on lifetime tv called the Mermaids Chair, and holy Moses what beautiful music especially the one piece they played when kim basinger and the monk would get together.

I've searched and searched the internet to find out what it is but i've had no luck. It sounds a bit irish but it's played very slowly and and it sounds so beautiful in a melancholy way. It's played with the Piano of course and the violin accompanies it as well.

Does anybody have any idea? I know this is a long shot but I'm hoping some of the ladies tune into lifetime tv. teeeeheeeee If some of you guys do too, it's ok to admit.

Hi Loly,

I didn't see that movie, but you got me curious, so I asked my friend Mr. Google about it. Here's what I was able to find out:

The music was composed by Rolf Lovland, and performed by the group Secret Garden (which apparently consists of Lovland and one other person). It doesn't appear that the soundtrack has been released, but Secret Garden has produced other albums that you might want to look into.

I found a website devoted to Secret Garden made by a fan, Secret Garden fan site , which has a discography. It also had clips of their music, and I will agree witn you that it was very beautiful. I'm not sure what was playing, but it included violin and was quite haunting.

Anyway, that should point you in the right direction. \:\)

Here's how I got it: I googled "mermaid chair music". That got me to a review of the movie, which at the very end listed the credits including who did the soundtrack (Rolf Lovland). Then I just googled Rolf Lovland and the rest was very easy.

Actually, I need to thank YOU because I looked Secret Garden up on Rhapsody, and it has five of their albums. I've been sitting here at work all day listening to all five of them. Pretty neat stuff. \:\)

Monica,

Are you a work-at-home mom?

I can't imagine you having to work on NEW YEAR'S DAY! Well, at least it doesn't prevent you from posting, but you could be polishing another of your beautiful Einaudi pieces to share with us.

Have a great day no matter what you must do.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Naw... just a very procrastinating professor who had a book chapter due into an editor today. I got it e-mailed off at 2:50 pm, though, 10 minutes before I was due home to relieve the babysitter.

...of course I haven't started revising my syllabi for the start of classes next week, and I'm gone the rest of this week on a business trip, but I'll deal with that emergency when I get back.
