Hmm, now you all have me thinking that I should try the GW version... hmmm. For the time being anyway I'm going to continue with this version...

I play the GW version. Like a lot of new age, it's very repetitious and not as difficult as it looks. There's a small weird spot toward the end of the middle section, IIRC, but that's the only thing that's tough.

This is one where I absolutely had to memorize it, because there are a lot of jumps in the middle.

Shirokuro (and others), you might be surprised at how well you get on with this version.

ShiroKuro, I haven't decided which version to go with yet. But I think I said before that I didn't find the version in the book I bought challenging. But it's going to be a time factor for me. I now have some other music that was recommended to me by a teacher to practice in addition to the music for the learning groups here. Not sure how much time I'm willing to devote to this.

I am behind the times, and somehow missed this discussion before. Would someone be nice enough to share the file of George Winston transcriptions with me? I missed the bus to pull it off of savefile... \:\(

Ok, KetchupandJam shared the files with me. I am going to host it on my webspace so that anyone else who wants it has access. I added a readme file to the zip. It is in excel format, and just serves as an index to the sheets. I included what album each song can be found on. If you run across this and the link is bad, just PM me and I will fix it. Enjoy.

George Winston PDF Sheets

***Edit*** Ok it should work properly now.

Steve, thanks for sharing this with us! What a beautiful arrangement of Carol of the Bells.

Sometimes I find myself playing piano while I'm dreaming in my sleep...and when I do, I sound a lot like you.

I have a preliminary recording, a preview, of Carol of the Bells, GW version. I definitely have a hard time with one part, but here it is.

Steve: Very nice arrangement. And many other great arrangements to be found on your site as well.

icekid: You are off to a great start. You really have a solid grasp of the left hand in this arrangement. You use it well to drive the music and hold pace. I hope you don't mind me making a sugestion. I would like to hear the sixteenth note arpeggios ring out a little cleaner. It currently sounds just a little bit muddy, like you are still tensing up and feeling rushed through that section. I know that will come with time. Good job, thanks for sharing with us.

icekid, I just noticed you live in Orlando. I then noticed you play a clavinova. Did you purchase your Clavinova in Orlando? What model? And which piano voice did you use for this recording?

Thanks dk. I may be rushing through that section, but I'm trying to clean it up. In that particular recording, I wasn't even hitting the notes to begin with. Maybe I'll have it by Xmas.

I used to live in Orlando. I just moved to Columbus, Ohio. I bought the Clavinova in Orlando by the Florida Mall and it was a Yamaha dealership called Piano Distributors, I think.

It is a CLP 130 and I just had it on the default voice...Grand Piano 1, Reverb Hall 1, No effect, Medium Touch.

Ivory Treasures, I am rotflmao. Your performance blew me away...

That arrangement and performance of, Carol Of The Bells is briliant.

Just so you know, I am a rank beginner and one time, a good friend asked me to play something a second time (it was a 'pitty' request) but I did.
I imagine you get asked all the time!

Thanks for the laugh and for sharing a beautiful performance/piece.

I am sure you will have it by Christmas. I always consider the hard part to be learning all the right notes in sequence. You already have a pretty good handle on that. Plus you are already up to speed. Unless you plan on going faster than Winston's recording.

I have been in that piano dealer multiple times. As of yet I have not been able to get them to get in the right price range for me. But, I am not ready to buy yet, so maybe they can smell the lack of money in my back pocket when I come in. They seem like a decent establishment.

I almost never look at this thread, as I'm not in this study group, but I'm glad I did. icekid767, you did a FANTASTIC job with Winston's arrangement. Very impressive! I've printed out the sheet music but took one look at it and fainted, so it's going to have to wait for another year. Or five. ;\)

Ivorytreasures, you are of course in an entirely different league. I loved your arrangement. Thank you for sharing it with us. \:\)

Thank you Monica. You're always too kind. I've learned recently that I have been playing this piece way too fast. Just compare it to GW himself. I've slowed it down and it's starting to sound better and more even throughout. Thank you for listening and don't use it as an example, please:)
