I would be grateful for any teacher recommendations in the Washington, DC-Maryland area (Virginia is too much of a pain to get to!). My situation is that I want someone who will really let me develop some performing skills by not dumping a lot of really difficult music on me, but instead pieces that I could really master and perform. Teachers tend to get overexcited when I start with them because I know a lot (have a DMA in cello; have taught music myself), but I really want to take things slowly so I can get better and memorize everything I learn. What I have been working on since I decided to start practicing the piano again a few months ago:
Bolcom - Ghost Rag #1 (b/c it was the last thing I had worked on a few years ago) -- but it was too challenging, so I put it aside
Granados - 8 Poetic Waltzes (seems about right)
Bach - Prelude and Fugue in d minor (No. 6 from WTC Part II)
If anyone would like to refer me to anyone, you can send me a PM. Thanks very much!
