I've got my first piano lesson in 37 years, excepting one, coming up on Friday.. I'm so excited I will probably have a heart attack first.

Apple - How exciting. I miss my lessons. Hopefully, we will get back on track in a few weeks once school settles down a bit for both of us. Meanwhile - 12 days till Esty arrives. Two weeks from today I will definitely be playing it her! Everything is ready!

I hope it works.
Teachum - I'll count down the days - Sep. 24th? I lost 5 pounds before my piano came I got so worked up and excited. The day the piano came I just about went thru the ceiling.

Apple - Is that the Prelude in D Major that has like 4 voices going at all different counts at the same time?

P.S. I'll take losing five pounds - that would get me close to perfect. Just joking! It's starting to get cold out on the enclosed backporch at night!

stroke of marvelous luck would be the best way to put it.
I've interviewed 5 and they all thought I was great. (Of course I might have not interviewed good enough teachers) Couldn't fool the one I chose tho,.. Hope he doesn't fire me.
Teachum: "Apple - Is that the Prelude in D Major that has like 4 voices going at all different counts at the same time?
I don't think so.. It seems to only have 2 voices.

How exciting for you! Tell us all about your first lesson! I hope this teacher works out for you - I had to switch after about 7 months, and now I've got a superb teacher! Hope I can be a superb student!!

Good luck Apple!
If you don't mind my asking ... What did you talk about in the interviews that made you decide on the one you did? Or is the feeling of "connecting" what matters most? I need to find another teacher for myself.

I talked about my goals with the teachers. we met for 1/2 hour. I played for them.. I guess it was a feeling of connecting and his level of accomplishement. What I like about this one, is that he communicated with me as a peer even tho extraordinarily more skilled, and easily identified some of my weaknesses without being asked to do so. We'll see. He might find me intolerable.

For what its worth, Apple, I've got my first lesson with a new teacher in two days - already getting nervous. I'm sure I'll butcher every piece I try to play for her. Par for course.

Hey Apple, I'm curious what did your new teacher ask you to bring to your first lesson? Is he going to work on theory, repetoire, or both? Jon

I had my first lesson today with me new teacher - what an incredible change from the previous! Night and day! I'm still blown away. There was an enthusiasm there today that I've never felt before - not with me (I'm always enthusiastic), but with the teacher. She seemed really pumped to be sharing her wisdom with me, which I never had with the last. So many new techniques to work on! I rushed home and scribbled down what I could remember - the lesson what supposed to be a half hour, but it reached close to a full hour! A bargain at twice the price! I could blather on about specifics, but I won't waste the bandwidth. Sum it up as follows: if you feel inhibited or unhappy with your current teacher, try a new one - you might be pleasantly surprised!
Apple, I hope your experience is half as positive as mine was - Good Luck to you!
HM

HermanM That's great that you found a wonderful teacher! It really does make such a difference, doesn't it? When I switched to my current teacher 5 weeks ago, I felt so renewed with enthusiasm and love my lessons and love to practice. She's worth the price (double what my previous teacher charged!). My lessons are an hour long (twice a week). My teacher writes down all the notes I need to remember in a notebook during the lesson so I don't forget. It really helps because it IS hard to remember everything! Does you teacher NOT keep a log or list for you? Maybe you can ask her to jot important points, or do it yourself during the lesson Apple, can't wait to hear about your first lesson!

you know what is bad...? He came over a couple weeks ago.. I had had a busy day, and I said "sorry - I am not the world's best housekeeper" (mainly because I am addicted to the piano) and he said "Yes - I can see".. So I have to at least sweep and dust and pick up the toys, clothes, books, movies and shoes - yuck

Good. The house is already tidy? Seat and relax.
Yesterday I interviewed a teacher, too. To start with I liked it better than my old one. I'll keep looking, though.
