Pray for me!

smile

This is my very first classical piece although I have been playing for many years. I decided to dive into classical piano because my playing will benefit greatly from it.
I am going very slow, 80bpm at the moment, and I've only worked the first 12 measures.

Couple of challenges already:

1. The alberti bass - it is improving quick but at first my left hand sounded like I was chopping bacon for the quiche lorraine we had for dinner! Working with the metronome helps greatly so I am not worried.

2. The trills - So glad I picked this piece because if forces me to play the 16th note triplets just right, no more approximating. I am improving on this as well.

3. The 16th notes scales from measure 5 - I have a hard time playing them with the nuances and passing the 4th finger on the descending runs make them quite uneven. Again I spent 30mn with my friend the metronome working on them and considering how I have never done this kind of practice I think I am doing a good job. I have learned to be very patient with myself too, I used to become easily frustrated whenever I could not play something right.

I would welcome your comments or practice help. I will keep this thread updated as I keep progressing through this monster smile

Hi Regis, I've never played the piece so can't offer comments or help, but I *will* offer my strong encouragement! smile Work at it a bit at a time and it won't seem like such a monster.

Alberti basses pop up all the time, so it will be good for you to learn it. thumb

i don't know that prayer will help, but practicing the hard parts (which are just scales)with great attention might.

note that measures 5,6,7 and 8 have the same fingering in the right hand -all white keys

As you might have seen from another post floating around, I'm working on this piece too. I think you are on the right track with heavy use of the metronome. I've been drilling it in sections, starting down around 72 and gradually stepping up to about 90. It's taking a LOT of repetitions, but I am getting it. I'm up to measure 35 now, and the only major difficulty I've had is the long trill in measure 25. I have to slow down a little ahead of that measure to get in 32nd note trills. I asked my teacher about that this week and she said a little slow down is ok there, as the only other option is to do 16ths, which don't sound right unless you get up closer to 100.

Another less major issue is the trill in measure 15. That's actually a grace note, then a trill, so you are playing 4 notes. It takes a while to get the rhythm right, but if you slow things down it's not that difficult. Luckily it's one of the songs that came with my digital piano, so I was able to listen to it slowly and better understand the rhythm.

I know I'll have more issues as I progress, but for now it's going fairly well. I think I've been working on it about 2 1/2 weeks, and I've only been playing piano for 2 years.

Good luck and keep us posted on progress.
