It was awesome. I had been teaching myself for just about 10 days and about finished Alfred for Children 1A, but she introduced me to some new stuff already that I can practice.

We decided together to go with the Alfred Adult All in One course for the primary curriculum, but she is supplementing it with some individual pieces and a Faber book. As she says the biggest problem with Alfred is that it doesn't teach you to move out of your home position early enough, and it helps to get familiar with moving around earlier rather than later.

I'm so excited, I think this weekend I might make a video or two just so that in a month or two I can look back and see what progress I've made. I think making a video will serve me well when I feel like I'm stuck for a bit.

That's terrific, Barb! And I think making regular videos or recordings to track your progress is a super idea. You will treasure having them to look back on years from now. \:\)

Sounds like you are on your way! Can you tell us what the individual pieces are?

BarbVA, glad to hear that you enjoyed your lesson. Stick with it and try to continue lessons as long as you can. I have been distracted, frustrated etc but keep going - it works and in time you will build up a repetoire that you can use to perform when asked to play.

The Alfred AIO method series is a good choice - there is much of value in there - and just on the off-chance that you didn't know there is a lot of support here in the ABF via the 3 on-going Alfred threads. Have fun!

Regards, JF

BarbVA,

I second mom3grams question. What other individual pieces did your teacher give you to work on?? Just curious. Lessons are great. I am in-between teachers right now. I have been playing for 9-months. Its a great journey and its all that better if you have a good teacher. I am also working out of Alfreds all in one, so its nice to have another beginner join us.

Oh what Faber book are you doing ?

Welcome

KaylaX

Thanks all. For those that asked about the supplemental pieces, they are as follows:

Candy Corner-Elizabeth W Greenleaf Solos
Rainbow Song-Timothy Brown Solos

They both say Written for You, Elementary Piano by the FJH Music Compnay Inc.

The book is Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber. It says Gold Star Performance and "Challenging pieces with changing moods and changing hand positions" on the cover.

Hey BarbVA!!

I have that Faber book. Its fun. It came with a cd right!! The pieces are fast but you will work up to it. I still have problems keeping up with the cd. The duets are really cute too!!! You will have to let me know what you think of it. Have fun!!

Im not familiar with the other two pieces that you have but I will have to look them up on the internet. I am always in search of new stuff to play. Or maybe I have a sheet music addiction...Mmmmmm im not sure. I think its maybe both though \:D
