We have a Korg MA-30. Versatile, seems pretty rugged (as in it's been dropped several times and keeps right on a-tickin') and you can't beat the price! http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/KorgMA30DigitalMetronome?sku=214022

I have one that really good! It's the cheapest you'll find. It is guaranteed to last your entire life as long as you take care of it. It never winds down and will continue to run whenever you choose your entire life! It does this with no batteries! It's adjustable to any pace and you never need to oil it. It makes very little noise, yet you never miss one of its beats. It uses absolutely no table space on your piano and is completely portable. In fact, you can carry it around without ever giving it a second thought. I have two on me right now! I prefer to bring both with me wherever I go just in case I run into a piano somewhere. They are so popular, there are stores everywhere that will sell cases for them in any color or type you require. They have a whole trade in existance of people that devote their lives to designing the cases for these metronomes. It's remarkable really, but my favorite metronome is my feet! In particular, my left foot. I have a nice wood metronome, but I usually find myself tapping out the beat with my foot more often than winding up the old ticker. Anyway, I hope you find an actual metronome that works for you. Let us know what you get!

Make sure you get one with a blinking light.
It's often impossible to hear the clicks when playing medium-loud or loud, let alone ffff.
Having the blinking light in your peripheral vision makes it easy to follow the beat.

Mel [/b] i agree. i have a really nice Wittner that i keep at home, but the two that i keep at school both have lights. i thought the light would be annoying, but it does help. i have some sort of a QwikTime brand, which is good. i prefer my other school-metronome, which is a Matrix MR800, but the dial fell of. the other (Qwik Time) is more indestructable. The Zipbeat looks ok. if the dial is like that on the Matrix, though, watch out. a simple drop could break the dial.
