Glad you're here, Atropos, and I liked your comments about finger spacing in Hanon. I'm the opposite of GabyTu, I guess--I really like doing Hanon, and my teacher would rather I didn't. Her goal is for me to put more feeling into my playing, and--shocking--she thinks there's very little feeling to be put into Hanon! I enjoy them the way I enjoy stretching in the morning; my fingers feel much more lively after I've done them. I haven't tried transposing them yet, though.
Lately I've let Hanon slip because I've practiced Croatian Rhapsody so much. I think that piece is really just Hanon with a back beat.

When I restarted my piano playing in January (after 12 years break), my new teacher had me play first 10 Hanon exercises, C major only. It did help me with building some finger strength, and promoted uniformity. However, 2 months later I noticed that there is virtually no noticeable improvement on the weekly basis anymore. I brought the issue to my teacher, and she immediately dropped Hanon in favor of Czerny pieces (School of Velocity), and even that in her opinion is temporary until I am able to play etudes with more musical content (she suggested me picking up some Chopin Etudes, but I am still afraid to approach these).
Frankly, Hanon is controversial - if you feel like you are not making improvement, what's the point of spending so much time on it? Really, music, especially for us, adult beginners, should be an enjoyable experience, not an exercise in self-restrain and boredom.
Forgive me for being so straightforward, but if I were you, I would have already dropped my teacher together with his/her Hanon in all keys :-(

No problem Yuri, I like it when people give it to me straight. I agree with you and what most people said here.
