Hi everyone,

I've just started playing piano again. I use to play a little when I was kid and starting to play now as I'm an adult but still consider myself a beginner. I was looking to purchase either the K2 or K3 but cannot hear or feel the difference when I was at the store. Is the K3 worth the extra 2 grand? Also I saw an announcement of the new Yamaha B1 SG2 which is a silent version of the B1. Would that be any good? I know it's an entry level but the silent option might be good for the wife's ears as I currently practice on a Yamaha P105. I'm looking into doing RCM studies and exams and my new teacher thinks I'm around the grade 4 level. What are everyone's thoughts. I know the K3 is the most expensive and might be the best but I really have to stretch that budget. I would really like to spend 6k all in Canadian. Thanks everyone.

Both are good pianos one is taller than the other. The taller piano should be better, but it is a personal thing. If you don't like the taller piano any better just get the least expensive.

Keep the P-105 for silent practice rather than spend the extra for the Yamaha.

Would the smaller piano K2 prevent me from learning any more? Thanks for your replies everyone.

I just played the K2 and K3 today in Toronto, very similar pianos imo. K3 is considered as the "standard piano" with Yamaha U1.

I'm going to probably get the K2. I hope to have this piano for a very long time. I can't justify paying the extra 2k for the K3 if I can't tell the difference. Thanks for your help everyone.

Logical decision - Enjoy your new piano, it will serve you well for a very long time.

I was in a very similar situation two years ago: I was hesitating between the K2 and K3. While I was also wondering myself if the K3 was worth the extra money, all my doubts went away when the piano movers said that the K2 would go through the narrow stairs of my apartment, but the K3 maybe not and I didn't want to pay extra bucks for the piano going and coming from the store to my apartment so I got the K2.

And two years later I am very happy with it. It holds tunings quite well... action behaves very consistently, and sounds good enough for me. If you have neighbours having a smaller piano has an advantage over a bigger one: it's not so loud.

But if I would live in another place, and have more bucks to burn... now maybe I would get the K3 or similar. But for now I have enough piano for years to come.

My college has K-2's and K-3's. They are both excellent pianos. You will not be disspointed with either one of them.
