Crystal Pianos were a buzz in the late 1990's, at least they came up in conversation then.

I haven't heard of them lately and, in fact, could not find their website when I searched for it recently - weird.

I am glad that they are still around. Thank you for this Steve!

These pianos in a home do nothing for me. Put them on a stage and play around with lights and lasers, spectacular!!!

Pretty awesome looking, not exactly fit in with my decor at home, but if I were a rock musician, I'm sure I'd like to have one on stage. I'm sure the price is out of sight, too, so it's probably for someone like Alice Cooper, though I could see Lang Lang playing Liszt on it with laser lights and fake fog in Europe or Asia; probably not in the USA.

Doesn't Schimmel make a transparent piano also?

I was surprised when the linked website to crystal pianos claimed they were the only transparent piano?

sorry, this just doesn't do it for me. It reminds me of the acrylic (plastic) furniture that was in vogue a few years back. I think the novelty would wear off pretty soon. But it is interesting, I wonder how that stuff holds up over time.

Piano manufacturers try to get attention just as car dealers do.
Especially during national shows and exhibitions.

Nothing special really, lightening up the otherwise boring "all black piano" show.

Schimmel's plexiglass model had been used for decades by Udo Jürgens, one Europe's most famous pop-stars.

So, if you want to become famous [and don't mind being slightly behind times.. wink ] here's your chance:

Especially if dressed in white as well...

What's the tone of these non-wood body pianos? Do the non-soundboard components have much effect on sound?

I played one of the plexiglass Schimmels. It sounds/plays the same, but looks 20%-40% cooler wink

Kawai also produces or used to produce a "Crystal Piano". In certain settings they can look spectacular.

I remember one in the Baldwin Store in Danvers Ma where I taught in the 70s.

I was mesmerized and thought it would be so cool to have one.

Now, give me a beauty in veneer!

One important difference between "Crystal Piano" and the Schimmel Glas or the Kawai acrylic piano - the Crystal Piano has an inner rim that is clear as well. Neither the Schimmel or the Kawai have this distinction.
