I think silents are becoming more popular now.

These two are very much at the same price range.

Maybe something I will invest in (in the future)

Any input would be appreciated as to the difference
or features of either piano (ie where they are made
(Kawai) difference in actions, sounds, touch, tone)
Have you played any?
Are they able to accommodate a classical repertoire?

My understanding is that the B3 is a class above the
B1 and B2 and has the same parts as the U1 in a slightly
different looking cabinet and is made
purely by Yamaha in their Jakarta factory.

There's a local that sells both so I would try them
first but it's a small shop so not sure they would have
them in stock.

Have been looking at youtube and like the sound of both
pianos.

If you are in the US the K-300 will be a Japanese-made instrument while, as you point out, the Yamaha is made in Indonesia, the former having a reputation for better build quality.

There certainly should be a significant difference in price as the labor cost in Japan are so much higher.

Keep in mind the compression on there does some nasty things to the sound ( youtube )

I know from experience though many of the people or companies who post on there after contacting them are usually willing and able to send higher quality recordings to you when you ask for them for a better comparison between pianos when you are not able to travel much to experience them first hand

Hi Orangeaide,

After carefully looking into the design in terms of performance and also cosmetic detail. I concluded that the K-300 compares closer to a YUS-1 than a U-1. Therefore in my opinion a comparison to the B-series should not be of any consideration. If you are trying to decide between these two pianos, definitely the K300 it is a better choice.

I've only tried the Yamaha, as they have a few in the Bösendorfer City Showroom in Vienna. They are great to practice on while others are taking their lessons on the Bösendorfer Imperial Concert Grand. It grounds out the noise of the Imperial while letting you hear only what you are practicing on the Yamaha. It is a wonderful instrument. Bösendorfer is part of the Yamaha group.
