Hey gang,

Moving my new Bluthner tomorrow from one room to the next and noticed this morning that the d.c. needs water. Is it ok to fill before moving? I actually poured in a little, then had second thoughts and decided I'd better check.

Recommendations?

Many thanks,
CG

I'd wait...

tons of moisture in our air right now.

Let us know how you make out with the move CG.

Hope it 'turns' out 'upright' and 'grand'!

(forgive the puns)

I'd wait to fill until after the move. And if the piano is to be put on it's side, the D-C will be disassembled anyway. But yes, it should be filled so the complete system is ready to go.

The op says the piano is being moved to another ROOM. I really wouldn't worry. The worst that would happen is a little bit of spilling if the piano is jerked. So, grab a couple paper towels, wipe up the mess and BAM! Good as new:)

I realize that. But if it is a vertical, that water tank is inside the piano! And if it's a grand, unless the doors are really big, professional movers are going to have to do the job so the piano can be moved on it's side. smile

If it is going to be moved in a day or so, unplug it and leave it empty. Don't leave it plugged in and empty....

Movers can tend to be a bit rough when pushing pianos around sometimes. I've had a call or 2 where the humidifier had been filled in a vertical and while moving, water was then splashed onto the strings.

The safest way? Remove the humidifier reservoir and re-install after the move.
