Hey all,
We've been getting a lot of helpful reports and PMs about various threads in the last few weeks, and on behalf of the mod team, thank you for that.
I've noticed that I've been getting more PMs with mod-action requests. No worries there, but I do want to take the opportunity to remind everyone that the best way to report posts is by using the very small, near-hidden "Report Post" button above every post, here:
There are a few advantages to using Report Post, over either PM to mods, or seeking mod action in the body of a post itself:
1. Speed. Every mod gets a notification when Report Post is used. So if one is off-hours, you're much more likely to get a resolution than if you rely on PM or in-body text.
2. Transparency (but also speed): Unless mundane (e.g., clear spam), most mod actions are discussed among the team before action, and we try to keep each other in the loop on conversations. PMing a single mod adds a bit of complexity in the process of looping in the rest of the team on the facts/proposed action, and of course introduces more opportunities for inconsistent decisions, which we want to avoid. All of this also adds to the time it takes before any major action can be taken, in those hard-to-decide edge cases.
And just to be clear, "Report Post" isn't intended (just) to flag bad actors. If you you think a thread belongs in another subforum, is a duplicate post, or just merits a sanity check for whatever reason, it's easier/faster to report it, and the mods will be notified and be able to take a quick look.
Thanks everyone for helping out and keeping PW friendly and accessible!
