The 'ostinato' type thing?

It's a little piece by Mendelssohn -- I think it's called Scherzo even though it's in duple meter. Let's see if I can find it on youtube....

Yup, found it easily -- and played by one of my favorite pianists, Brailowsky (it was from this recording that I learned the piece and I was glad to find it online):



One of our members posted a recording of it about a year ago. I made some suggestions and he sort of blew them off. Too bad for him.

Thanks! Wow, Mendelssohn? I don't know why but this piece struck me as being quite a bit later than him. Cool!

Yeah -- I doubt I would have even thought of him if I didn't know the piece. There are aspects I recognize that suggest him, like the ostinato chords and (somewhat) merely the key of E minor, and really it's not that far from the rondo part of the Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso. But overall it seems too 'wild' for Mendelssohn. I can't imagine who I would have guessed if I had to -- maybe Alkan.
