Hello,

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4D579A587CEEAB93

all the movements are in this playlist.
What is your opinion on her playing ?

I associate Yvonne Lefébure with the "French school of piano playing", even though I couldn't define it properly nor tell why I think she represents this artistic current. She was a pupil of Cortot, played live for Ravel, Dukas, probably Debussy...

She was also in some ways pretty similar to Adele Marcus who was discussed here a few days ago, because she was teaching high level students at Paris (both in the conservatoire and the Ecole Normale Alfred Cortot, I think) and seems to have been somewhat nice (not necessarily the case of Marcus if I understood well) but also pretty strict and unforgiving. Here's a link to a video of her teaching Beethoven !

Thanks for your replies !

She's part of a long list of incredible female French pianists active from the 1900-50's period (which include such luminaries as Marcelle Meyer, Jeanne-Marie Darré, Madeleine de Valmalète, Monique de la Bruchollerie, and France Clidat, to just name a few)--her Op. 109 has always been a particular favourite of mine.

When I have more time, I'll give it more of a listen, but I have to say that I was a bit turned off that all the notes in her opening trill in the prelude didn't speak until the third time she played it.

In the "lesson" on Beethoven, one can't help but admire her passion, her commitment and her energy - such energy both in her playing and in her conversation.

I would, I think, have been both much intimidated and inspired by her teaching.

She sings louder than Gould!

I agree... and it's nice to see an intimidating figure use hand redistribution in the first movement of op.110! (7:05 in the video)
