I am contemplating asking for a particular structure to my lessons. As an adult student, my goals are mainly personal satisfaction. I have "played" (I mean playing like a toy) with the piano off and on after taking basic lessons from my grandmother as a child. I just had my digital delivered last week and teach myself music the same way as I would when I was a child "playing around". I deconstruct something basic into smaller parts and write notes all over the sheet to help me learn the notes since I am still learning to sight read. I'll play a section through, focusing on any difficult measures until I can master the section. Then I move on to the next section and so on until I learn the entire song.
I have just started half hour beginner lessons. Would it be inappropriate to request hour lessons, with the first half hour structured as a normal lesson, followed by the second half hour as assistance to deconstruct the music I am currently working on for pleasure? Example, last night I started to break down Fur Elise. I am working on teaching myself the first section and would love assistance from my teacher, in addition to my normal lesson. Is it wrong for me to work out of the lesson plan sequence?
