In the video, the piece you were holding is called the "mute" or "silencer".

We take felt for granted here. It's easy to forget how good our supply chain of parts is compared to elsewhere in the world. It's hard to complain about that late shipment of parts, when in some countries you simply make do with what you have, and in this case, the repair works very well. Good job, Max.

" No bad cats, there is a cook who can not cook it's" Modern Chinese proverb.

Thanks for the objective evaluation of my work,Bob. I acted in this case as an expert. I have made the task of the woman and she did a good sewing. For me there is no concept of "secondary product". If a thing can "live a second life," why not? The old felt piece from the children's trousers will keep the neighbors's quietness. My idea of corrugated cardboard shim also a consequence of my belief. Simple cardboard resurrects pianos from the realm of the dead and gives them new life.
