I'm in the market for a used piano. I just checked out an Everett, approximately 15-20 years old. It sounded good considering it hadn't been tuned in maybe 10 years and appeared to be well cared for. However, the keys felt a little soft or mushy. You had to play them fairly hard to make a sound. Is there a way to adjust this? What is the cause of this?

It probably needs regulation. Get a tech to check it out for you. Try Larry Snider in Davis.

Are the keytops mushy or the action? Just kidding.

Everett made some descent pianos, tha have help up fairly well. The key bushings could be tight causing excess friction (as well as a variety of other area of the action, resulting in slugginsh feel).
Also, the hammers may be too soft or grooved rendering the tone extra mellow and muddy sounding. Have a good Tech check it out before you buy it.
