There are book clubs, scrapbook clubs, garden clubs, and other clubs. Are there piano clubs? When I briefly took guitar lessons last year, the teacher suggested that one of the best ways to improve was to play with other guitarists. It seems to me that getting together with other piano people occasionally would be of great benefit.
For one thing, it would provide an opportunity to play in front of other people in a non-lesson and non-threatening environment, unlike a recital. The rank beginners among us could benefit from some suggestions and critique from the more advanced pianists. The more advanced pianists could benefit knowing how much better they are than the rest of us. If people meet at different houses, everyone gets a chance to play on other types and brands of pianos. Participants would also be exposed to different types of music. Plus, it provides a wholesome social envrionment and keeps people like me off the streets, out of bars, and away from strip clubs.
So, has anybody heard of or participated in such a group? If so, I'd like to hear about it. If not, I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in doing something like this. Probably the biggest issue is geographic logistics, but I would guess that at least in metro areas, it might not be too hard to find a handful of local people.
