You`ve sorted and recorded your music. So far, so good. Then, a short or long time later, you decided it needs a facelift. A big one. Like a rework; start over again in order to improve things.

Is this you? `Cos if it is, it`s never ending! Maybe it`s a good thing since it means your standard of acceptance has risen . .or does it?

I've done this several times - I call it bringing pieces back from the dead. Each time you bring back a particular piece it gets better and more firmly entrenched beneath your fingers. And, assuming your playing has improved, the piece improves too.

I think it's a good strategy to let a piece that is "worthy" rest for a month or two after you get it to a certain level. Then, when you start on it again, go immediately to the trouble spots and concentrate your efforts there.

No!! Old crap can sound completely new after you have gained some skill through other pieces! You come back to them with a fresh and new perspective. Your musical sense will have matured. So you can see the music in a new light.

I tend to leave pieces a bit longer than Sam. I'll go sometimes up to a year. Now granted, half the time I have to completely relearn the piece. But that usually goes quickly!

Which reminds me that I'm supposed to have kept the pieces I learned over this past year up to snuff and in my repetoire. Naturally, I haven't!! LOL!! It may be time to bring a few back from the dead!

I agree with Sam. All my pieces are work in progress anyway, including my first piece of 2 years ago. Every time you visit it or bring it back, it Is like meeting an old time friend but you got wiser meanwhile and the new experience is is more meaningful.
