The "Great American Songbook" Themed Recital will be September 15, 2015.

Here is a wikipedia article describing the "Great American Songbook".

Quoting from the article:
"The Great American Songbook is the canon of the most important and most influential American popular songs of the 20th century – principally created for Broadway theatre, musical theatre, and Hollywood musical film in the United States. Written from the 1920s to the 1950s, recorded and performed by a wide range of musicians, these songs are considered of enduring popularity."

Think broadway shows, musical films, early jazz and blues, even early rock and roll. The cut-off date for compositions is 1959.

But we will not limit the recital to only American music. Any popular music from that era that fits the theme is acceptable. The choice of whether the music is a good fit is left to the performer.

The details:
1) All skill levels are welcome. There are many easier arrangements of the music. Even those who play by ear are invited to participate.

2) Duplicate pieces will be allowed, since there is hardly a standard way to perform popular music.

3) Multiple submissions are allowed, for instance several pieces with a similar theme or from the same composer or musical. Be creative!

4) We will be using the recital submission software. The recital will open for submissions Sept 1 and the recital will go live Sept 15.

5) I may change the order of submissions before the recital goes live to group the music better.

To sign up, hit the quote button of the most recent list in this thread, remove the quote in brackets at the beginning and end, and put the Composer, title, year of publication (if you know it), and your forum name.

3) Bent Fabricius-Bjerre - "Matador" - Jytte
(this is written 1978, but as a 1930s tune for a movie from that era, and absolutely fits in here)
4) Kerry Mills - "Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis" - Jytte
(written 1904, made popular in the 1944 movie of the same name)
5) Kai Normann Andersen - "Glemmer du, så husker jeg" (If you forget, I will remember) - 1932 - Jytte

Three pieces might be too ambitious for me, but I couldn't decide and I love all three of them. With 5 months to go, I might just pull it off smile

I've added another now. I think we will be OK with these Richard. I'm sure they would have made it to Volume II of the GAS were it ever to come about anyway smile. This one, for a long time I have wanted to work on, but it has always been pushed off for other things. If I have time for it, I will try to fit it in as well.
