Don't know if this has been ever posted on this site but just stumbled upon this gem. Seems like very nice way to wrap up a Sunday evening listening to this March 25, 1985 Jazz Piano NPR radio show with host Marian McPartland and Mr. Henry Mancini:

I love Henry Mancini's music. I had the pleasure to hear him play at a small venue in La Jolla, Ca many years ago. What I remember most is what a gentle touch he had at the piano. He wrote a song called 'Sometimes' for which his daughter wrote the lyrics. Very sweet.

Hi rada, you're very fortunate to have heard him perform as the interview reveals his desire to relate to and please his audience irrespective of the venue or media used to convey his vision. Certainly a generous and kind person for his manner, style and the works that he left for us to enjoy. Would love to hear more of his interviews if they do exist.

Here's a list of the songs for those who want to zero in on the piano playing, at what time they appear in the broadcast and who's playing the number:

Two for the Road - 2:41 - HM
Meggie's Theme - 6:16 - HM
The Pink Panther - 13:06 - HM, MMc
Mr. Lucky - 18:11 - MMc
Dreamsville - 25:41 - HM, MMc
Charade - 33:02 - MMc
The Days of Wine and Roses - 42:33 - HM, MMc
Moon River - 48:05 - MMc
Baby Elephant Walk - 53:40 - HM, MMc

I always like to promote Cy Walter's arrangement of 'Moon River' so if you ever come across it have a look. I believe his son has been working on a possible film of his dad's life [ Cy Walter]. I loved the arrangement Henry Mancini played of his 'Two for the Road"....I'm sure I could figure it out [ at a snail's pace] but I would sure love to see that arrangement. It was fun listening to the two duo and ad lib.....I have to mention that when 'Airport 77' was being filmed in San Diego Jack Lemmon and crew were staying at the Sheraton Harbor Island and they used to come in and hang around the piano. I was playing the piano in a group then and do have a photo with Jack Lemmon somewhere.....at the time I didn't realize that he and his son played the piano.

You can find Cy Walter arrangements of many pieces, including "Moon River," on the Cy Walter website: www.cywalter.com . Look under "Archives" to find the sheet music to download.

I'll have to try his arrangement of "Moon River." Thanks for recommending it.

Hey guys....new here, but I just saw on Twitter this awesome script of an intro from Henry Mancini on Elton John from @HenryMancini. Anyone know where to get a clip of this show on YouTube or somewhere?
