Here is my recording of the first Promenade and Gnomus from Pictures at an Exhibition made with a Yamaha GT-2 digital piano. I will post the remaining movements one by one (or two by two rather) in this thread as I progress with the piece. Feel free to give your feedback, I will have plenty of time to digest it before I start preparing the entire work.

Thanks! It's an incredibly fun piece to play, despite the occasionally awkward piano writing.

Great playing! What was the piano in the recording?

It seemed like that in the Promenade the tempo slowed down when it switched from single notes to chords?

Thanks! The piano was a Yamaha GT-2 (GranTouch) digital, still perfectly in tune after 12 years lol! The GT-2 was one of the first ones with real grand piano actions. The recording was made with two omni mics placed above the speakers located under the lid.

I did a subito piano where the strings come in in Ravel's version and ended up pulling back the tempo a bit too much to accentuate this.

Good playing, can't wait for the next part coming soon. Are you going to piece all of these recordings together? You should do that! And you should also make a 1-straight-take recording and share both of them with us. smile

Loved it!

Feebeeliszt, OSK, WinsomeAllegretto:

Thanks, so glad you enjoyed it!

I can definitely string these together once I have completed the set. I also just added track numbers to the file metadata, so if you download them now, iTunes for example will automatically group them together as an album in the correct order.

I plan to start performing the entire work later this year and will certainly record some of these performances. It will make an interesting comparison!

Yay, keep them coming! You have presented us with pretty solid renditions of everything so far.

Overall, how difficult is this work for you, and do you have any insight from experience you could offer? What are the difficulties of this work to you? I'd like to play this piece sometime and having some inside info from someone who has played it is always nice. smile
