We're interested in getting a piano that we can use to play original compositions, save them on a disc, and then slide the disc into a computer to print out sheet music with the aid of a program like Encore. Has anyone out there ever done this without directly connecting to a computer? What digital piano makes this as easy as possible?

Any digital piano with a floppy disk-based sequencer should be able to do this. You can record the midi representation of what you are playing to the floppy and then use a computer program like Encore to print the score. You will have to do a fair amount of tweaking in the score program to make it look good unless your rhythm is perfect!

Any digital with 16 track sequencing on it. A floppy drive would be nice, but usually pianos running around $1000 won't have one. If you don't want to get the higher models with floppy drives, you can MIDI out your commands to a PC program and record it like that, also.

I use a Roland KR-277 Digital Piano and I just love it!
