This is TOO COOL! Looks like a harpsichord, has a terrific set of samples. Too bad it costs a fortune or I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat. The harpsichord sample in the Yamaha P120 and P155 is pretty awesome too. Key up samples (where the pluck resets past the string) make it fairly realistic.

That is so cool.
Looks more like a clavichord than a harpsichord, though.
And Roland totally should have made the white keys black, and the black keys white.
And made it a double manual.
And sold it with videos and books to try and imitate Maestro Hector Olivera's awesome accent.

I'm SO excited!
I played it at the local piano shop a couple weeks back. Debated it. Then placed my order last week.
I agree that they key colors should have been reversed. Oh well.

I just picked up a Yamaha PSR-S910 this morning. It has a Super Articulated Harpsichord that is about the best recreation I have heard. When you release the key, you can hear the sound of the quill moving across the string. The modulation wheel adds the coupler. The PSR-S910 has 61 keys, and retails for quite a bit less than $2000 USD. It also has a great piano and pipe organ as well as a lovely Super Articulated Concert Guitar, that sounds awesomely real. Of course, it doesn't have the look of the Roland...that may help the latter sound more real to some.  Snazzy

Of course, it doesn't have the look of the Roland...that may help the latter sound more real to some. Actually, for me, it's more about the feel of the keys. The C-30 feels like you're playing a harpsichord, not a piano.

I agree that the C-30 is fantastic. Too bad it's hard to find here in the US. Also, it's a bit pricey. My Yamaha P-85 has decent piano but mediocre harpsichord sound. I'm not sure it's even sampled. Are there any midrange DPs (i.e. P-155 etc.) with good harpsichord sound?

Where is the 'local piano shop'? I'm surprised anyone is selling these retail, I get the impression it's mostly institutional sales. By all means let us know what you think when it gets here!

Local piano shop is in Northern Virginia/DC metro area. I take lessons there and noticed it one day as I was there for a lesson. I had found a couple places online that sold it prior to that, and had been considering it for a while, but was undecided since I'd never gotten to actually see/touch one. As soon as I actually touched it, it was just a matter of convincing myself to spend the money

The Flemish audio is Bach. It's the same piece as the first clip here http://www.roland.com/classic/c30/concert/index.html#mizunaga(Purple box on the left about halfway down the page) I'm not sure about the Dynamic Harpsichord audio piece.

The C-30 suffers from an elementary design problem - no top f sharp or G. The harpsichords used by both Domenico Scarlatti and Rameau would have possessed these notes, and they used them in their music. Once again, Roland have shown that their hardware solutions are driven by engineers, not musicians. What a pity!

Hummingbird, could you PLEASE tell me your 'local piano shop' by name? I live in N VA and am dying to see and play one. From all the YouTube clips, it looks great, but I want to play before I buy. If naming stores is inappropriate to these forums (I just joined), can you send a private msg?
