Apologies if this has been raised before but my problem seems to be a bit different from dead key issues I have seen raised. In my case all 'c's up and down the keyboard are intermittent. Also when touch is selected 'c's all come out really loud no matter how hard the key is hit. I cannot see how this could be down to a key switch. All other notes are fine.

Can anyone help please?

Keyboard input is usually multiplexed so yes, one bad connection or faulty component that sends a bad signal could possibly cause problems across multiple keys, especially if there's a pattern to it. What in particular that could be I do not know.

I see from your other post you have a Yamaha. Is it under warranty? Have you talked to them or a nearby Yamaha dealer?

No it is not under warranty any more but I guess you are right and I need to find a service agent. Not so easy here in Spain. Thanks for getting back though.

This could be something as easy as an partially unseated connector. Are you willing to open it up?

FWIW --

That (a partially-unseated connector) would be the first thing I'd look for. And I'd start with the connectors (and cable) that joins the keyboard to the main circuit board.

This could be a _very_ low-tech repair, if you're lucky.

Thanks everyone for getting back. I took the instrument apart and was pleasantly surprised how serviceable and user friendly the process was.

It was full of Spanish dust but as suggested, it seems that the problem was down to a partially inserted flat cable. I hate them but at least I know what to look out for next time.

Thanks again.

So it's fixed? If so, great job! wink

Employed by Kawai Japan, however the opinions I express are my own.

+1.

You've got to love those repairs where the hardest thing is getting up the courage to take something apart, that you've never taken apart before.

Yes Kawai, it is 100% fixed. My problem actually is that I dive in and take things apart without hesitating only for everything to spring apart. I was impressed just how servicable this was especially the keys.
