Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums here on Piano World, and as my name suggests also to the world of the piano.

I am looking to buy an instrument, a GEM RP800 to be exact, and have seen them at a very competetive price at a dealers in Italy, Namely Cherubini, and was wondering if anyone from the UK had had any dealings with theses guys.

In particular delivery times and warranty arrangements etc.javascript:void(0)

Any info would be greatly appreciated http://www.pianoworld.com/ubb/ubb/icons/icon10.gif

resurrecting an old thread in hope that someone can confirm that it is safe to buy a digital piano from Cherubini in Rome (www.cherubini.com) if you are in the UK, i.e. will the manufacturers honour warranty? I phoned Roland and they said they will NOT. But maybe Yamaha does? Does anyone know?

Someone who bought Kawai said on this forum that Kawai honoured the warranty (howbeit not without some resistance) but I am more interested in Yamaha as Cherubini's prices do seem very competitive compared to our local ones...

I'll ask Cherubini on Monday and also phone Yamaha to confirm just in case.

I think the retailer is responsible for honouring the warranty, at least they would be here in the UK but I'm not sure if this applies to the EU as a whole. Thomann (Germany) give their own 3 year warranty on all of the pianos they sell and their prices are very competitive. I haven't checked but if Cherubini state a warranty period ask them if it applies to pianos shipped to the UK.

The dealer is responsible for warranty. Warranty is laid down by EU Directive. I can confirm that Cherubini do honour the warranty for items sold to the UK.

i, after scrolling Cherubini talked to knowledgeable people and they explained to me that this is often the policy of companies to limit warranties to the country you buying the product. so if you live in the UK but bought in Italy you are welcome to bring damaged product to Italy but no service 4U in UK.

so add the cost of sending back and all the hassle. this what keeps many folks buying in their homeplace instead from some abroad shop. pity but this life.

maserman, i am sure Cherubini must have some sort of warranty and will honor this. at least their site claims they are the oldest and biggest music shop in Italy. however when i contacted them for free of charge shipping they even refused to talk. not very nice treatment of a potential customer.

anyway, major problem is that you run into a hassle of packing and sending your DP back to Italy, you pay postal charges not mention waiting time and reliability of their service depart. all in all this is a risk but if price is 500 euros less then it might make sense.

I think Cherubini's prices including shipping are still very competitive. I seem to recall a PW forum member saying Cherubini sent a technician to deal with a fault on his piano and he lived outside of Italy. Thomann (Germany) told me they definitely send out a technician to a piano fault here in the UK or arrange exchange without cost to the purchaser. However, it may be prudent to check first in case of recent policy changes.

crusader, interesting. i am sure because thomann has probably representation in UK, but i am not sure about Cherubini. a good company would reimburse for shipping costs however. on prices Cherubini offers very good prices and on some models they have super good prices. check out their Kawai CA51 price.

gluttny ; You can't really expect the lowest prices AND free delivery ??? [or were you talking about warranty returns?].

Cherubini use UK-based techs for warranty support, so no sending back to Italy for repair.

The EU-mandated warranty is for 24 months.

As crusader says, if you are concerned, reconfirm their policy before spending your money.

just to give you an idea of how reliable they are i tell you what happened to me 2 years ago: in early november 2006 i ordered them a gem prp800 that was supposed to came out right before christmas, specifing that was a gift and need to have it by 25/12. in early december they contact me to tell me that the piano had arrived but got damaged in trasportation, and they would not be able to provide a new one until early january, so they offered me 2 choices: either wait for early january or getting immediately a yamaha p-140 at the same price, 790 euro if i recall properly (the p-140 was 1190 at the time). i went with the p-140 and i'm very happy of the choice.
ciao,

daniele

p.s. i'm from italy so maybe was easier for me, also i choose payment to courier upon delivery.

ok, thanks for your inputs. i had a story with flat screen TV where i could not buy from Germany because that would mean no service in Austria and that was confirmed by the maker. however here it sounds different, good to know. anyway, checking out their policy before ordering is wise idea.

Hi,

Just checked my warranty for my cvp 407. I bought mine from Cherubini - over €1500 cheaper than here in Austria!!! I found them to be good.

The warranty is a pan EEC/swiss one for 2 years. It says you can take it to where you bought it from OR to your nearest yamaha dealer!!.

I have looked at the Uk Roland website and I am sure what they say about only buying form a uk dealer to get a warranty is illegal under EEC law!!

It does annoy me about the price issue especially since so many countries use the Euro that they are not the same. The price in Germany for a cvp 407 is €5474
Austria €5590
Italy €4470

Yet they are all next to each other.

Nigel
