Hi, newbie here from St. Louis,
i'm considering the Yamaha Nocturn N-100. I 'm looking for basics, not alot of bells and whistles, and the price is about right.
I'll be going to the store in a day or two to actually try it out, along with some others.
I have been playing a Kawai acoustic for ever and want to go digital now.
Does anyone have any experience pro/con with this model?

yes, sorry, it's the N-100 Nocturn.

it seems expensive, yet, if the acoustics and action are make up for lack of digital extras, then, it may be worth it.

it's sort of like CP300, lesser model than the current CLP 300 series, with GH action, 64 polyphony and 3-level dynamic sampling - a little out of dated comparing with the new CLPs. so, for the same amount of money, you might want to consider a new CLP340, unless you like its look.

The N100 has a nice touch and sound.........but you pay the price for design........

The N100 was released two years ago.....

When you want to have a no-nonsense piano with good touch an sound, better purchase a CLP320 polished ebony.......the specifications are better than those of the N100.

So your dillema is: design....or......nice appearance and better specs for less money.

The N100 is old already has no digital features and is expensive. All you're paying for is the design.

Check out the Roland RM700 has touch screen and many digital features. I think it's better then the CLP 320. You can also wait shortly for the new yamaha CVP 500 line coming soon to a store near you.

About a year ago, I assisted my piano instuctor, who is a concert pianist, in purchase of something he never anticipated buying over the years - an electronic instrument. He lives in an apartment, and could not place an acoustic piano there. To complicate matters, we live in a small town, there is no dealer for the higher end (Clavinova) Yamahas

We wound up choosing an N-100 Nocture. Within its price range, it does have an excellent touch, and good sound. The touch and repetition speed were particularly important to him. He now does concert prep. to about the 90% level on the Nocturne, then goes to a church with a grand for final prep. He will be leaving tomorrow for Spain and North Africa to be gone a couple of weeks, and to do several public concerts in the time.

So - it may not be the absolute latest, but it is a good sounding instrument, and good value for the money. I have played it personally several times. I personally prefer my Kurzweil PC3X and amplification system; but I also use my keyboard for Hammond, synth, eledctric pianos like Wurly and Rhodes, etc. and my setup was more money.

Actually (as has already been said above), it's not a good value. The styling is unusual, and if that has appeal, so be it. But as a piano, it's virtually identical to the YDP160. That one sells for about $1300, while the N100 is probably about $1000 higher. That's a lot of cash for extra cabinetwork.
