I am currently debating which digital piano to buy: Kawai CL26 VS Yamaha S51.

Anybody knows which one sounds better? Though I'm not too keen on the CL26 which has no lid, due to dust will fall through the keys and will damage the piano in the long run. Is that an issue?

Any suggestions please comment below. smile

Has to be the Yamaha. I`d have thought they were not really comparable . . . pricewise at any rate. The Yamaha would be recognized as the pricier option and would I think, sound better. And has a lid . . .

I don't think that the main difference is the sound, which is certainly different, but the action. But of course both things are completely personal.

I had a Kawai CL25, the previous model, the sound and touch was extremely good, and better than newer models I was trying from several makers. After a lot of though, time and budget thinking I decide to stick to Kawai for my new dp.

My CL25 didn't have a lid either, not a real problem. You can use a felt cover like acoustic pianos or one of Classenti covers, or a thin roll of felt or other fabric in a nice colour IF you really want to cover them. My opinion is that if you are using the piano daily you won't get a lot of dust anyway! grin

And many people with pianos leave the lid open. But now and then a bit of key cleaning is normal for both acoustics and digitals.

I was extremely happy with the CL25 as a beginner piano, and thought the action was better than for instance the YDP162, especially at the price, and the CL26 has a newer action so it should be even better.

You really should try both and decide for yourself, both will be good beginner pianos. But if you value the lid over other things, then of course go for one with a lid.

Serious since Dec 2013. March 2014, Kawai CA95!
