Thanks for the link - I guess we will see some posts here on Saturday!

With a suggested retail price of EUR 249,- it should run inside Kontakt Player (I hope), but the screen shots seem to show the regular Kontakt engine only.

I wonder what we can expect in the future of the newly found company "C. Bechstein Digital". They state development of software AND hardware. Maybe there's something interesting in the pipeline?

Thomas

P.S. just found that the site already can be persuaded to deliver the manual in german:

"I hope" : you can be sure :

"Unterschied: KONTAKT-Player oder KONTAKT-Vollversion"

(Kontak-Player or Kontakt-fullversion)

According to the manual you linked, Kontakt Player is included in the price.

Kontakt Player is a free software (I mean 0$)... Then always included in the price.

What we have to do is to check if the virtual piano is compatible with this player and here, this is the case (some other pianos only run in the full Kontakt software which is costly).

Yep, itching to hear what they've made here. Kontakt engine is fine, we know it works well with lots of other instruments, so it comes down to the source instrument, recording sessions, and programming. Bring on the demos!

The audio demos are up,

The velocity layers sounds quite good. Transitions are pretty smooth, and the extended tails sound legit. It's a warm sound, but can apparently ping when poked. Worth a look if they'll do a demo mode.

It's a test, I tell you. It's a test!

They're testing my resolve to resist my chronic GAS!

And the release date is October 1. Tomorrow!
Can I resist? Oh the humanity!

Unknown live playability for classical repertoire, aimed at music producers and priced out of my league. Not hard to skip for me.

Just listened to the demos.

Hummm... not sure if I'm that impressed. No doubt it sounds great, but not convinced it's superior to its competitors such as NI's Maverick to be honest. I need to listen to more demos..

Yes, at $280 it's twice what I'd be willing to pay.

The price is ok with me if it's good, and it does sound good so far. Mind you, it would be another toy that I don't deserve.

Indeed. That's a great offer for people who know how to make money with that. But just for casual piano as a hobby that's too much.

"we decided to create this instrument with the least possible room reflexions or even reverb"

- that certainly gets my approval. Their first demo is dry (or nearly) which takes some nerve, very few libraries dare to show their face without makeup and while the playing is slightly weird and halting, the sound is convincing, unaffected. I haven't seen any indication of sample size or number of layers but "minimalist" probably provides a clue.

More than I'm willing to pay right now but if there's a sale at some point and with positive feedback meanwhile, I could be tempted...

26 velocity layers (click the "crown" logo)
Somewhere else it says 25GB compressed - it's a bit of a monster.

- ah!, thanks. 26 layers is quite generous for Kontakt which makes an excellent job of hiding transitions. 25GB isn't so scary these days. Garritan's CFX opens up to 123GB (and it's a pain to load!).

The editing options look interesting...
