Hello,

I just got a (used) Roland FP-30 electric piano. The piano sounds are very good, but there are some small issues. On all the different piano sounds, one tone is much thinner and more "clanky" than the rest. For the standard piano, it's the middle E (lowest staff line). For the other piano sounds, it's either middle Eb or middle F. All the other sounds are normal throughout the register. Anyone else with the same experience? Any suggestions? (I have updated to the latest software version).

Maybe the sensor on those keys needs cleaning? It’s not too difficult to take apart according to YouTube.

As stated, it's different keys for different sounds. Clanky with one sound is fine with a different sound, and vice versa.

Did you try playing all the keys with the keyboard off, and seeing if any of the keys sound different?

That will show or eliminate it being something mechanical, I think.

Yes. It's not a mechanical question. The other sounds are fine, and the "clanky" tone on one piano sound is fine with a different piano sound, as stated earlier. It's either E or Eb or F, not all three and it varies from piano sound to piano sound.

I have an FP-30, and just tested same: the said "E" is no different in general timbre than the keys surrounding it. The sound does not appear thinner to my ears.

Maybe it is a matter of resonance in the room. I have experienced the opposite effect where the "G" one octave lower resounds too much. Room acoustics are strange beasts.

Good point. Room acoustics issue can be confirmed or ruled out by comparing speaker to headphone, right?
