Mason & Hamlin A Owners, do you have a tape-measure - ? - 09/08/13 11:20 PM

I am hoping someone here can maybe give me a couple of measurements from their Mason & Hamlin A. Just, um, because.

Mainly I would like to know the measurement from the front of the keybed to the lyre.

Also, if you have the traditional matching storage bench, it would be great to know the dimensions. Height is immaterial, but the length & width of the bench top would be helpful.

Just checking something. smile

Thank you!

It is 15 inches to the lyre.

The Steinway lyre is about an inch less, but it is difficult to say what a common reference point would be. They both date from about 1920, and versions from other years may vary.

it has to have been a trial-and-error thing. in the case of the m&h it looks like they built the bench to fit entirely under the keybed. other benches might be wider, however.

and maybe only important if one has to fit a particular space...

I bought mine from the estate of the original owner, and the original bench was not built by Mason & Hamlin.

all the more awesome, then, that the bench can be stowed so tidily when not in use!
