Movin - Movin - Movin - 08/22/08 10:38 PM
I will be leaving CT and moving to FL this Sunday.
This is a big move for me, and unfortunately I'm making it alone.
I expect to arrive in Pompano Beach, FL (near Fort Lauderdale) sometime Tuesday (or Wednesday if I'm too tired of driving).
I'm hoping to start a new life down there.
So, if you're in that area and would like to get together (no, I'm not looking for a date, thanks), please let me know.
I'm also hoping to pick up some tuning business, so keep me in mind. (and, I do Ecommerce/Internet Marketing/SEO consulting, so keep that in mind too).
I'm transfering the Piano World phone number to a cell phone, so you will be able to reach me that way, or via email.
In the meantime, I'm going to be off the air from Sunday morning until I get set up in FL.
So, moderators, please keep an eye on the kids, and kids ... behave yourselves!
Best,
Frank B.

Wow, good luck with the move, Frank! I don't envy you all the packing and unpacking.
....but I'm sure that sometime in February when it's 75 in Florida and 5 degrees in CT you'll realize it was worth it.

Frank, best wishes!
Doors open in opportunity when we least expect it. May you find everything you need in your new chosen area. The scenery alone should be pleasurable. But, do stay tuned to the weather reports!
Take good care!

Good luck, Frank. I moved from back East to California more than 20 years ago, and can't imagine living back in the cold and humidity. I've also lived in Florida. There's no question, you'll really enjoy it not being in the cold during the Winter.

I hope this doesn't mean that we will be missing you at all the New England/NY parties! Who will play all the rock and roll?
NE has always been a destination for visitors - and 'now' you'll have to become one...
Be safe traveling and enjoy your new turf...
BTW, did you pack an umbrella?

All the best! Sincerely!

Ah, a road trip. Time for some great solitude, maybe some favorite music in the cd player, the adventure of the open road. . .
Have a great time on the road, and enjoy that new life -

Hey Frank,
Welcome to sunny South Florida.
Please give us a call when you get settled in a bit. Love to see you again. Our remodeling has finally been completed since you were last here. We hope you know that you are perpetually invited to come to our home anytime you feel like it. Maybe we'll even get the piano tuned just for you, or better yet, hire you to tune it for us.
We should be able to help you to pick up some tuning business, and possibly some Ecommerce/Internet Marketing/SEO consulting work as well. We'll introduce you to some of our South Florida music business friends as a starter.
Please say Hi to your sister Barbara and her husband for us, and it goes without saying, they are always welcome to come visit too anytime they can.
We're looking forward to spending some fun times with you.
Warmest regards,
Barry and Anita
P.S. I'll buy lunch. There are several neat ocean side restaurants, right down the beach from our home, that we think you would enjoy.

Re: Movin - Movin - Movin - 08/26/08 07:56 AM
I used to love Connecticut
in sunny summer visits, but
I can imagine winters, though,
with ice and sleet and lots of snow.
In Florida I had a ball
with sun and beaches, big and small.
Orlando, Keys, Miami Beach
were favorites. To me they each
were paradises full of life
(And I was young and had no wife!)
So take your stuff and move down south
and soon by way of "word of mouth"
the world will know you have arrived.
And you will soon feel all revived.
Best of luck from ChatNoir,
Des bonnes journees, et bons soirs.
(PS: Work is still really, really slow....!)

Wow Frank, this IS a big move. But I'm sure that this winter when you read about all the north easterners shoveling snow and scraping ice, you'll be smiling like the Cheshire Cat!
As you should already be in Florida by now, I wish you all the best. We're all expecting an update on how your relocation went. Don't forget to send some pictures too, if you took any.
Best regards,
Roger

Re: Movin - Movin - Movin - 08/27/08 03:31 PM
Thanks for the nice notes everyone.
I arrived late yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.
Drive down was pretty uneventful other than some torrential rain in Georgia.
I can tell you August is not the best time for a slightly overweight (ok, more than slightly) older guy to be carrying stuff up to a second floor condo in Florida.
To make it more interesting, the A/C wasn't working in the Condo, so I couldn't even get cooled off when I was done (got it fixed today).
I did take a few pictures on the way down, although I have to tell you it's a bit tricky driving a U-Haul truck pulling a trailer with a car on it, doing 70 MPH, and trying to take pictures :-)
Bear 1, I'll be happy to take you and Anita up on your offer.
More later, I need some rest.

Glad to hear you arrived OK, Frank. The winter weather will be quite a contrast to CT. Good luck in your new location.

As promised, a few pictures:
George Washington Bridge, NY
An odd piece of sky somewhere down around the Carolina's. Note the glowing light in the middle of the clowds. It was an wierd greenish/yellow glow.
Getting down where it's flat
Finally made it...
Don't see many of these in CT.
Or these signs (evacuation route)...
Couple more pictures to go...

Pulling into the Condo complex...
Setting up the new Piano World office, note I don't have to go far from the bedroom (ok, I don't even have to leave it).
And the important part...
Ok folks, I'm down here in Pompano Beach/FT Lauderdale area now.
Looking for tuning work, Internet Marketing SEO/SEM consulting, Ecommerce consulting, and piano forums parties

frank,
best wishes for a bright and brilliant new future in this next chapter of your life. new beginnings can be scary, but also thrilling and liberating. may you land on your feet in florida and find prosperity and fulfillment in all that you do.
i guess we won't run into each other in new york and new england very much any more, but i hope there will still be plenty of opportunities to get together (ptg national next summer?)
btw, the condo complex looks very nice.

Please tell me you have a more comfy chair other than what is pictured here!!! Maybe you just hadn't unpacked the multi-position,ergonomically correct chair from the u-haul yet, right??!!
I will personally miss your presence at our local gatherings. I value the opportunity I've had in getting to know you.
I know you will find a tremendous amount of enjoyment in your new location! (and I'm NOT talking about the weather!!)

Thanks Terrytunes/Pique' and everyone else.
Yes TerryTunes, I have a new egonomically correct office chair, just hadn't built it yet.
I do expect to still attend some of the New England events (the Mason & Hamlin tour, the Cape [when they have it again], etc.).
And I hope to find some people down this way who want to host Piano Forums parties.

Actually, I had always figured that PW deserved the penthouse floor of a large and imposing skyscraper.

Kinda neat to think that something that reaches so many people can be run out of a PC in somebody's bedroom.
Hope you get settled in quickly, Frank. I'll be envying you when the first snowfall hits. Actually, I envy you now... the condo complex looks wonderful. Is your unit on the lake itself?
p.s. You need to update your profile location.

Well, it is on the top floor of the Condo :-)
The "lake" is a canal, part of the Inland Waterways. The "A" is pretty close to where I am (I'm in the 4th building from the left in the complex).

Hmmmm...
Just a thought...
How many bedrooms do you have to accommodate visitors for piano parties (or what have you) down there?
:p
I am glad to see that you have started to settle in, and wish you everything wonderful from this day forth!

Frank, the thing in the third picture looks like a sun dog. It's caused by ice crystals and sunlight. Usually there are two, one one each side of the sun.
I hope it symbolizes success and happiness in your new home.

Well, I certainly wish you the best. Ft. Lauderdale's classical music scene is pretty non-existent. Maybe you can help get something off the ground there.
Best wishes,

Frankie,
Welcome to the south! Now, you're a neighbor! Sorry to hear you're doing this alone, but there is life on "the other side"!
When you get settled, give me a jingle and get us caught up on life in Florida (you old man-you!). At least I "stopped" in Georgia! (LOL)

Hi Frank...sorry did not respond earlier...you see I too moved to Florida - Coral Gables area.
My wife (a professional musician at a major NYC orchestra) decided to retire and was offered a professorship at Univ of Miami, so off we went. We moved in July and haven't been on line much.
Wishing you all the best. See you've found linkedin, it's a great site. In the short time here have met some great people and even some I worked with earlier in my career who moved here.
While I'm working out of my home (or trying to) would love to get together some time...
Just remember my favorite phrase..."life isn't what you're given, it's what you make of it." And I know you will make a whole lot...
Best Wishes

Welcome to Florida, Frank!
I beat you down here by one month.
I would invite you over for dinner and company, and hire you to tune the BB, but being over here at the end of the panhandle, I might as well be three states away. Consider yourself to have a standing invitation, however.
