Does a 1994 Yamaha G1 Baby Grand Piano worth $8900? - 08/16/09 10:54 AM

Hi! I am new to the forum. Please give me some advices. I am looking for a baby grand for my son to start the piano lessons. Now there is a 1994 Yamaha G1 Baby Grand Piano selling by the owner locally. The ad says it is regularly tuned and cared for and asks for $8900 OBO. My question is, if we test the piano and it sounds good, how much would it worth? I would like to have some professional views before bargain with the owner. BTW, I also would wonder if this is the right piano for my son to start with? Thanks a lot!

That actually is probably the last year of production for the Yamaha G1.Being of 1994 it would be near the same as the C1,the newly released sucessor. The Yamaha pros here I'm sure will confirm any differences between the two.
Nice piano though $8900 is definitely on the high side $. I would say maybe $7000-$7500 of course contingent on it's pristine condition. When it get's to close to the new price than one would go new. This vintage would be comparable to a newer GC1 though much more $ as of lately.Good luck! smile

If it turns out to be a GH1 model the value and performance would go down materially.

Older pianos can be a good buy - if its condition and price is right.

Agree with both above posters.

No, not worth it.

around $7k would be good like pianobroker said above.
