I'm Brian, new member. I'm a self learner and currently working on the Moonlight Sonata 1st movement, musically. I have a 100 yrs old full upright Victor Chicago Bush & Lane (a player without the player installed). I tune the piano myself.

I found this Moonlight version online and like the way it was played:

I wonder if anyone know the pianist and if there is a piano solo version by the same pianist?

It's pretty much the original music (with a few errors thrown in) with an ambient homemade backing track. You don't need a special "version" to play it like that.

My recommendation would be to listen to several versions by world renowned pianists and make one of those your model. The one you chose, from the little I listened to, seemed overly sentimentalized with rubato not really suitable for music from the Classical period.

This version is actually horrible

I too think think this version is quite bad but hey each to his own. If there were a solo version by this pianist they would completely fail to bring out all the emotion this piece has to offer.

You posted this in the pianist corner. Most people in the pianist corner play quite above this level and therefore you only get criticism so far ;-)

You could try to post in the adult beginners forum, or alternatively mail the owner of the youtube video. Probably she made it herself.

Thank you, and I learn a lot from all of your inputs -- I also learn the trick to find the source by clicking the “purchase” that you pointed out. I started out listening to one of the original versions but happened to run across this one and the tempo seemed interesting, but I agree that the solo version might not sounds “as good” for the mood. Kempff’s 3rd movement was incredible – his fingers were as fast as humming bird’s wings -- and I like it so much.
