I have a small request

I have a small request - 05/31/01 08:39 PM
I noticed that there is a "rate member" feature on the new BBS, which is pretty cool. Yet, we all seem to be five-star members. Don't get me wrong; it's great that we all rhink of eachother with respect, but how will we ever know what a five-star rating REALLY feels like unless there is someone with a one-star rating, a proverbial hallmark of troll posting and flame wars? Every triumph needs a tribulation; how can we ever know true bliss if it's all we ever experience?
I would like to be such a sacrifical lamb. Thus, I implore each member (new and old) to give me a one-star rating ASAP, lest we all lapse into that warm, utopian glow that a five-star rating gives.
Please; for the sake of the board.
Brendan

Person or persons unknown only gave Steve Cohen, a piano dealer who posts on the other board, FOUR stars.
Who was being cute? How does this ratings stuff work, anyway? :p

Hey, don't feel bad -- I got no rating at all -- complete indifference!!

Ah, but that's because you excluded ratings in your profile, my friend.
Probably worried about all the Liszt fans ganging up on you.
OK, so now I know who got member number 3, I wonder who got number 2?

Unfortunately it doesn't appear that the board will allow me to change my vote!! :p

Liszt "fans" ganging up? Hahahahaha, more like Liszt fan. Wait, there's Diarmuid, so that makes two of us.
I hope that upon the posting of this reply my rating will have gone down by at least two starts - don't disappoint me!

Re: I have a small request - 06/01/01 12:27 AM
Ha! I tried to rate you Alex, but I thought you turned the rating thing off ON PURPOSE. It is a dumb thing - like how many carnations you got in high school on Valentine's Day (Jodi - 0)

I have given everyone who has posted more than once 5 stars. I think. Sorry if I missed anyone. Who is number 2, anyway?! I'm waiting for my senior membership. Hrmmph. :p #11 (Jodi)

I was quite surprised to see the 5 stars under my personal rating. I rate myself 1 star. Definitely NOT more than that!

Re: I have a small request - 06/01/01 06:57 AM
Too late Brendan! As a fellow Liszt affictionado I gave you 5 stars days ago! Actually I've only given 5 stars to anyone so far (tried to give Alex 5 as well but he's turned off his rating bar, how discrete!).
Brendan and Jodi
Brendan, I gave you ten stars. Sorry, I can't lie.
Jodi, if you erase the left most "1" from your member number - well, I guess that means your number 1 (which you are).
Regards to both of you.
Mike
BTW, everyone on this forum and the Piano Forum is 5 stars in my book. I have learned a lot from each and everyone of you. And that includes 5-STAR Steve Cohen.
Regards to all of you,
Mike Pappadakis

Wow, that is too cool. I am definitely starting to get the hang of this new format -- I like it.
Plus this is just a post so that I can increase my number so that I'm not a "junior" member forever.

Re: I have a small request - 06/01/01 06:04 PM
Ahhhh, Alex, I see you succumbed and are exposing your five-star rating like the rest of us!
So I take it no one is going to give me one star...makes me sad.

I agree with Mike - you are all 5 stars in my book.

Thanks for the group hug, Cork. Jodi

Jodi, it seems that you have left us "junior" members behind and have become a full member. You're the most fitting to get there first, narually.

And now it's a race to see who gets to Senior Member status first!!! Will it be Jodi, with her bright, cheery, helpful posts that make her the Mary Pickford of the Forum, or will it be Cork, The Barbarian, with his caustic humor utterly devoid of soul?
Tune in next week; same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!

You guys cheat...
You post on BOTH forums, so that's double points! How are we lackeys ever supposed to compete with that???
Posted by: Cork
Re: I have a small request - 06/02/01 12:56 PM
Well, Brendan, you COULD post on both Forums yourself . . .
Or you could take the mature attitude that this is not a "race" and that you aren't "competing". That your posts, though fewer, are more pithy. That true quality does not rely upon quantity. (Loser)

I've actually been lurking there around the time I started posting at the Pianist Corner, but the topics never really interest me because I don't know jack about piano brands/specs and it seems to me that newbies there are greeted with ridicule (or used to be...haven't checked their board in a while). There were also more than a few times when I wanted to tell that Leuhrmann guy off, but it wasn't my argument and I got more pleasure just reading the flames...
It's almost like we're a seperate entity altogether, with a few go-between-fence-riders like yourself, Cork!

Very funny Burma Shave postings, wghornsby
Whoa! Each one counted as number 14!!! Can this software be THAT smart????
As much as I got such a thrill from getting those stars -- it brought back the feeling of my first gold star in 1st grade, and wanting MORE -- I think they are aren't too prudent. I don't like the potential it offers for giving people 2 or three stars. Who was the wise guy who gave Steve Cohen 4 stars? Feh!

Everyone here is a STAR as far as I'm concerned.[/b]

this site seems to post your current status on all your posts, no matter when you wrote them.
One more, wg, and you're there!
Brendan - the new forum seems a whole lot nicer than the old one. So far.

Ah, but Brendan; you probably know about as much about pianos as I do about playing them, and that doesn't stop me from posting here!!!
The Forum's much nicer these days, I think, to newcomers. We only had a bad spell there for about eight months, and then the more obnoxious offenders left. Keep in mind that "in the beginning, there was the Forum", and many of us started there and stuck around because of the good people who post on it. Come on in, the water's fine.

Ok. Maybe this is just because my little musical brain does not extend to the realms of such things as computers, but i am quite confused by this whole new forum thing. ok, not only this rating stars thing, but what is the deal with these smiley faces? and the thumbs pointing up and down? are we rating movies? maybe i should stick to chopin. You know what, you're right. I'm turning mine off too. It could be a bit of a vehicle for trolls and malcontents to get at people anonymously (some awful person must have given Steve Cohen a 1 or something to make his weighted average 4

). That was awfully unfair.

I see that many of us have become bra-burners already and have cast off the ratings!
You may be fired, Cork, but just look at it as "early retirement." Then, you'll have plenty of time to go inside yourself and become a philisophical barbarian.
There is also the other option of "walking the earth," a la Kung Fu: the Legend Continues.

Grand Caymen sounds fantastic but I'm a working man now!!! I've just landed a part time job at guess where Cork? Bluthners in Berkley Square!!!! (the fact that I've got a job at all will make my parents faint!).
Can you believe it! I went to Gloustershire with Neil and Jill, where they were playing a concert for Heir Bluthner (the main man!). Anyway I ended up getting sloshed on champagne with some guy who turned out to be the MD for the British end and he offered me a job!! At first I wasn't going to take it (I thought it would take up too much of my time) but a couple of friends gave me a mental kick up the butt and told me to. Had the official interview last week and got it!
It should be great fun, and you have my word of honour that I won't become all stupidly pro any brand

Or anti any brand

Just couldn't keep it to myself any longer

Diarmuid,
That's fantastic! What an outstanding place to work; I love that store. The Bluthner is a big favorite of mine; just got a chance to play a couple new ones at Kahns here in Dallas a couple weekends back, including a 9'. They are wonderful instruments.
I'm delighted you accepted the position -- you'll do well there and have some fun at the same time. Congrats!
