For each playing style I'm sure there are a bunch of patterns out there for the left hand. Some probably more difficult than others. But now when I play by ear I keep using the same patterns all the time. Is there a website that clearly shows the different patterns that can be used? For example the pattern that's used for the left hand in the braveheart theme I can use as well for the gladiator theme and the last of the mohicans. I'd like to spice things up a little and vary it up.. Pls don't come with paid websites, because I have the David Sprunger course and he pretty much only looks at right hand patterns.

posted this in the piano forum too, but this might be the better forum

What else is there?? grin

Just kidding!

When playing by ear, the LH usually plays cords and bass notes or bass notes and cords. It can be very simple or complex. I can play simple, I can't play complex. grin

Take care,

There's a book in the Steinway Piano Library that just focuses on the left hand.

Jazz Piano The Left Hand
by Riccardo Scivales

Here are some other books you might find useful:

Playing Keyboard Bass Lines Left-Hand Technique for Keyboards
Piano Method. Softcover with CD. 96 pages. Published by Hal Leonard

The Jazz Pianist: Left Hand Voicings and Chord Theory
by Fred Hughes

An Introduction To Jazz Chord Voicing For Keyboard
by Bill Boyd

Also, look for books published by Mel Bay. There are some that may be useful.

Hope this helps.
