Music Hall Wall of Fame

If you read my "Where In the World" story in our October Newsletter you know I've purchased a fixer-upper in Florida.
I'd like to cover one wall with old sheet music (think decoupage).

If you have some old sheet music in reasonbly good shape (not stained, no mildew) and are willing to donate it to the cause (cause I don't have any money) I'd really appreciate it.

I'm looking primarily for sheet music that is complete with the cover. Any era is fine (I like all kinds of music).

Frank, you may already know this but you can get sheet music literally for free at used bookstores. At least here in San Diego you can.

in the 80-ties I was working in P.R. with a Bassplayer called Bob Bauer. He had the first Realbook ever, he told me. It was a collection of Jazztunes, published in the very old Downbeat publications.
I did get for personal purpose only several pages of this outstanding collection. Here is an example.

Antique stores have plenty - but they want more than a dime. I paid 3 bucks for a long sought-after "Mother, at they Feet is Kneeling". Brought back memories of my first piano teacher who had the kid ahead of me learning this. (Dates me, i Know...)

If that's the "before" of a "fixer-upper," I can't wait to see the finished product! The floors alone already look in great shape...

That one wall is perfect for a sheet music treatment.

The place was a complete disaster when we started (and it smelled as bad as it looked).

Oh my. That house really *was* in horrible shape. You've done an absolutely amazing job on it. I'm feeling tired/poor just thinking about everything you had to do...

My sister made it.

She creates quilts, pillows, wall-hangings, etc.

What a pleasant place you've made of that house! Although I'll have to admit to getting a kick out of the "office" picture One can't, at the minute, walk in my living room

estate sale companies that have clearing house storefronts for their leftover wares also might be a good resource.

i recently saw a 3 part folding roompartition screen covered with Beethoven scores.. it looked really cool. definitely homemade but excellent.

frank, i had no idea your new place had required remodeling. what a lot of work! but the results are quite impressive. nice floor and wall treatments.

don't have any old sheet music for you but i think your plan is a great idea and i think it will look wonderful. looking forward to seeing the "after" pics.

You've been busy... nice job, now I know who to call....lol

p.s. just saw the whole before/after series of photos. what a lot of work!!!! but inspiring what you can do in a short time to a problematic living space.

did you hire out most of the work or do it yourself?

Kathy and I did a lot of the work ourselves (she's very handy with tools and ideas).
I hired her nephew to do most of the trickier carpentry (including ripping out and replacing the kitchen wall).

Still a work in progress, but coming together now.

How was your NY book/movie event?

Ok, the "Music Hall" is coming along.

Would still like some more used music if anyone has any, but here's the progress report...

It's still a work in progress, but it's coming along.
If I could get some more music (hint-hint) I'd do more with it.

What magic you have done. The music wall is much different than I envisaged it, fortunately for you. I'm not much of a decorator. It's great! You've turned that place into a hall of light.

Yes, planning on covering with varnish or some sort of poly once it's done.

Your wall look great ! Even though a few of the sheets are almost too nice to glue to the wall. Too late If you still have some nice one left you should almost get some 9 x 12 music sheet protectors to store them.

If you keep adding more sheets I hope you will post more photos here.

I've 1/2 a mind to do my downstairs music room that way.

I know some of the pieces look like they should be preserved, but preserved for what?

I could stash them away in plastic folders where nobody will ever see them.
But I'd rather have them splashed across the wall where everyone who enters looks at them.

We aren't quite done yet, but it's close.

There's some other music that has sentimental value and will probably end up under glass in picture frames so it can still be displayed, but also preserved.

I just came across this posting. Are you still looking for old sheet music?

I have an apple box here FULL of old original compositions on 11 X 18 paper, lithographed, from the early part of the last century.

Also there is a stack of hit parade stuff from the 30’s 40’s 50’s. Here have a look............left click on the first photo to enlarge......

Now I can put all of this in a box and ship it to you but the weight is going to add up fast...I mean the whole box is more than 50lbs.

Unfortunately I don’t have any sheet music from Tarkus, Trilogy, or Pictures at an Exhibition for you.

You could be right. This box has been sitting here for more that 10 years now....I can't find anyone in this local area that sells antique sheet music.
Been wondering what to do with this......
There is even a copy of The Etude music magazine from 1929 I just came across.....
