HI,

Just saw a Casio CDP 200 at my local Costco and I was fairly impressed with what it had to offer and it's price as well. However, upon reading the internet, nothing is really mentioned about the CDP models, except for the CX or PX or something like that. Is this CDP 200 good for a beginner?

Keyboard is acceptable for beginner I think but sound is really poor. Unless very limited in budget I'd recommend saving some more money and going for PX-130.

thanks for the response.

Would it be better to hook it up to an amp?

I think the poor sound is not because of the built-in speakers so putting it through amp won't give you much more. It is just the crappy sound system it has. If you however plug it into a computer and use software like Pianoteq then you get combination of good keyboard and very good sound. Such setup is discussed here many times..

I think the major issue with the sound is the HL sound source. This is used in the CDP 100 and many of the Casio workstations. It isn't as good as the AIF sound source used in the Privias and Celvianos.
