Update: My Casio Privia PX-150 has arrived! - 10/09/12 09:45 PM

Well decided to go with the PX-150. It should be here when I get off work tomorrow afternoon. I hope it will be a good keyboard for re-learning and teaching my 5yr old how to play. Will post pics!

@warlock214,

Congratulations on your new digital, as I also had a Casio PX-130 (before trading up towards another model), and, you have chosen a nice one!

The PX-150 will have a very nice action, and, sounds.

I suspect it was a serious question and Spanishbudda wants you to give a review, BrokenChord. As an owner you are more familiar with the specific pros of the piano.

Just got my PX-150 out the box and on the stand. The key action is really nice. I like the feel also. Just noodling thru the sounds and I would say definately different from the PX-130! The sound is very impressive for this price range. Casio is closing the gap folks! My first impression of the sound and expression is better than the P-105 putting this DP up with the Yamaha P-155 and DPs in that price range. I'll continue with updates as others maybe considering one of the PX-_50 DPs.

Are you annoyed by the fact that the Keyboard doesnt sit flush with the CS-67? There is a significant gap between the stand and the keyboard on the sides of the stand. The cut-outs for the keyboard to sit in are too shallow.

Comparisons between the new Casio action and the ubiquitous mid-range Yamaha GH and Kawai RH would be very interesting! If the feel is close to the GH and RH actions then the PX-x50 boards will be a real winner because the Casio boards are so much lighter.

I'm using an X stand from my previous DP.

You are so right! Gigging with quality @ 26 lbs would be awesome!

@BrokenChord,

Are you sure that you have assembled everything correctly?

As I had the same wooden stand (CS-67) with my Casio PX-130 and it seemed to fit just fine with the piano.

Check to see that the piano slides down into the stand, as I remember it being a little tight, on both sides.

+1 exactly.

@BrokenChord,

If you are not happy with your wooden stand, you can always try one like this below, which I am currently using with my Kawai EP3:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/WS8550/

It's quite sturdy as it holds the EP3 (at 45 lbs.) easily, which is somewhat heavier than your PX-150.

I will reseat it today but the keyboard is sitting flush with the cutouts for the sides on the underside of the stand. When you look at the side of the keyboard, there is a 1 inch gap between the keyboard and the stand. Maybe the PX-150 is a bit taller than the 130?

Its not really bothering me, I can play just fine. Its just a little weird is all.

There is no difference between the previous generation and the new products in relation to the way it fits on the stand. In fact the (bottom) chassis is identical to accommodate the same stand. I'll get a picture up later today.

Mike, should we conclude that the PX150 and 350 will work fine with the CS67 stand, the SP32 pedal board, and the Privcase?

(By the last item I mean this: http://www.amazon.com/Casio-PRIVCASE-Pri...sio+px+350+case ).

Also, do you have any recommendations on a flight case that would work with these keyboards?

Thanks!

Mike Martin said you need the new pedal board

They have it in stock.

1 inch gap?! Post a photo so I can compare to my 330 + CS-67.

This is the PX-350 on the CS-67 stand here in my office. Fits exactly the same as the PX-330.

My problem is by far bigger: there's a 1000km gap between me and my PX-350 until 22.10.2012!

My PX-350 is ordered and due to arrive on the 18th. I've gone for black for now but if satisfied, may well follow it up with a white one + stand for wedding use. I was toying with the Kawai ES7 but after a brief but exhausting encounter with a Kronos 88 on Wednesday (long story), I've decided that my days of lugging 20kg+ pianos to gigs are behind me.

Re: My Casio Privia PX-150 arriving tomorrow! - 10/12/12 12:50 PM

That way the keyboard sits looks OK to me. From a practical point of view, you probably need a little bit of space to get your fingers in to lift the keyboard out quickly. Speaking as someone who has to move keyboards around a lot for a living, I'm rather glad of that than otherwise.

Re: My Casio Privia PX-150 arriving tomorrow! - 10/12/12 02:35 PM

Hi Aidan, did you actually get to try the ES7 ? I wonder how you regard the keybed of the Px350 with respect to the Kawai. Also how the speakers measure up and how the EP's and organs are in comparisson, so please keep us posted when I arrives !
Posted by: Aidan

Re: My Casio Privia PX-150 arriving tomorrow! - 10/12/12 04:33 PM

Hi JFP. No, I haven't tried the ES7. To make that short story longer, I had an idea to replace my Kronos 61/Stage 2 rig with just a Kronos 88 (as I'm using the sounds mostly from that synth these days in my two bands). Well, it arrived and I could barely lift the thing on to the stand. Yes, the Kronos 88's size makes that more difficult than maybe the ES7 would be but basically, it convinced me that my days of gigging with 20kg+ keyboards are over. Sorry, James!

I'm pretty confident the PX-350 will work out for me. I lead a choir which has a PX-310 and I borrowed that for a couple of solo piano gigs this summer. Paired with my lightweight EV ZXA-1 monitor (and with the piano's own speakers still on), it made for a perfectly good and involving experience - sometimes, in the practicality of gigging, good enough is good enough, you know? The 350 is a couple of generations on from that, so I'm pretty sure it should do the job for me.

Re: My Casio Privia PX-150 arriving tomorrow! - 10/12/12 04:35 PM

I should add that I really don't have any interest in the PX-350's EP or organ capabilities, as in any situations where those sounds are called for, I'd be using the Kronos, albeit in the former case playing them from the PX-350.

I don't really care if you guys think it looks fine. I just said it was there, I didn't say the keyboard was bad.

Re: My Casio Privia PX-150 arriving tomorrow! - 12/09/12 06:11 PM

Greetings all - this is my first post! Just ordered my PX-150 with stand and pedalboard, and am now waiting anxiously for delivery sometime next week.

I had many years of classical training in my formative years, am lucky enough to have the ability to play by ear (but it hurts my head!) but have become rather rusty because the kids complain they can't hear the TV when I play my acoustic.

Hence the need for a digital piano for my den and a set of headphones.

Looked at both the PX-150 and the P-105, played them at GC several times and sat on the fence for quite a while. But reviews here and elsewhere, Mike Martin's obvious knowledge and passion for his products, and ultimately the opinion of mine and my family's ears (unanimous by the way) clinched the deal. Since I am a piano player, touch and sound are paramount - rhythm, voices and accompaniments less so.

So I can't wait...

BTW, any advice on headphones (I have a fairly restricted budget now having bought the piano :-)

Thanks,
Steve
