nazard - 09/09/03 06:53 PM

my wulitzeer chapel spinnet has a stop on the top manual called the "nazard" to play in this stop by itself, you have to play three and a half steps higher than the other manual or the pedals. It's really weird...any reason why? I figure its not meant to be played as the only stop on the top manual pushed in, but can anybody tell me why its like this??

Because it's a 2 2/3' stop (at least most nazards are). It's supposed to sound that way. It's not thought to be used alone anyway, rather as a colourful addition to an 8' or 4' stop.

Of course, if an organ piece requires only the nazard, you're not supposed to transpose but to play as written.
