I saw a piano in Canada made by Medelssohn. The piano was about 6 feet long. My wife and I liked the piano and we will consider this piano. The dealer says it is made by Bluthner. He had no printed information. Can anyone tell me anything else about this piano.

No, it was made by Steinway... no it was made by Bechstein or Bösendorfer... Who would you like to hear it was made by? I'm sure this dealer could accomodate you. Actually it's an American made piano of no particular distinction made by the Sterling Piano Company of Derby Connecticut and later the name was used by the Winter Piano Company of New York, all now defunct according to the Pierce Piano Atlas. I can't tell you anything more about the piano, but I could tell you something about the dealer.

Robert,
How much were they asking for the German Made Mendolsen House Brand Piano?
Can you provide a model # and Serial # as we have a grand Thru Bluthner but under a different name.
Maybe it is an IRMLER piano marketed by Bluthner with some models made in China and some in Poland .
A little more info please.

I don't remember exactly, but it was in the region of 35K canadian. He did play up the piano with respect to the high quality materials used thoughout, and stressed it was a relative bargain compared to many other new high end pianos.
I liked the sound and the action, based on this, I would agree that it may be a relative bargain. But I would still like to know more.

I too am looking for a piano, but I also am thinking long -term, i.e.what if in a number of years, I or my kids wish to sell the piano. If nobody recognizes the name of the piano,I think it would hard to sell the piano at a 'premium' vs. a known name such as Yamaha,Steinway etc.,a name people recognize.Unless he can prove to you where it was made,I would be careful.I also wonder why he doesn't have other 'Mendelsohn' pianos in his showroom?

I'm just looking for the most piano that I enjoy for the best price. I grew up with a piano, and after fifteen years of not playing, I,ve started playing again on an electric piano, and now I'm looking for something with a "soul" and staying power. I'm less concerned with the resale. I would like a piano that is trouble free and will last. I suppose if I were to look into the future, though, I would want to know that this piano was worth rebuilding in half a century.
